Slovenly? I am glad an unpretentious person such as yourself was brave enough to know I come from slovenly people. My grandfather did not chew tobacco and my grandmother was the original clean freak.
What you see as “glamorizing the redneck culture” (if there is such a thing) is the ability of people with something in common to laugh at ourselves. A lost talent.
To see redneck equated with ghetto is beyond the pale.

You watch MSNBC?I watch Morning Joe from 6 to 9. I gotta get other people's views somewhere and my blood pressure is raised the least by watching Joe (sometimes) counterbalance the predominant liberal media spew coming from the rest of the show.
Mika, to me, thinks like a liberal elite but I've come to the conclusion that she is honest about it and at least somewhat willing to see alternate viewpoints. She doesn't engage in the sophistic spin of the democratic activists. For that honestly I like Mika (but almost none of her views.)
Fox and Friends is too saccharine for my taste. Too many cutsie segments. I'd rather have my blood boil over political matters than threaten my diabetes with F&F.
In short, know thine enemy in the least painful way possible... ;0)

I mean tatooed, proudly ignorant and against "learnin'" and "sophistication," with daughters who get tatooed and get drunk while singing proudly along with "redneck girl" at the local gin mill. There are alot of the former in this country (thankfully) and (unfortunately) alot of the latter as well. At least we have manners.

It’s too bad dueling is not still permitted. Todd could have taken care of this long ago.

These mean-spirited, misogynictic liberal jerks used to get away with this stuff. No more. Letterman = pervert. Keep the pressure on.

Oh, “Dave’s Mom” was a one-hit wonder back in 1992, or something.
To: Kaslin
If the CBS network cares about basic standards of decency on public airwaves and if it cares at all about bolstering its shrinking audience, the network honchos will get Letterman a therapist pronto. The operative word there being 'if'. CBS doesn't give a rat's patootie, they think this controversy represents ratings.
(Note to SeeBS - it DOESN'T!!)

she slept with a guy to whom she was not married and thus produced an illegitimate child. Which is exactly what the mother of Letterman's son did. Bears repeating.

While we don’t know if Letterman has acted on his thoughts about underage girls, at least we know he is thinking about it.

Well, Dave .... it looks like your cheap shots at Sarah and her daughters, clever and hilarious as they are, aren’t going to fly. Maybe you should get your writers to work up some stuff on her autistic son.

It's evident that Letterman's own mother slept under the front porch and barked at the mailman.

Now, don't say that Minnie Pearl was a member of the Lumpenproletariat.
Sarah Cannon's character was country, but she was good, wholesome and upright. I don't think Minnie would have ever darkened the door of a county line bar, let alone get drunk OR tattooed.
There are an awful lot of decent country people out there. They've become a little too sophisticated to wear two-dollar hats, but they are basically the same as they always were.

wikipedia says she made her first on screen appearance in 1994...
If people were trashing his mother, (which imo, is a bad mistake),
david would probably be at least a little pissed off.
Don't you think...

What’s really hard to understand is how Bobby Rahal, who has always been a class act in the car racing community, continues to link his name with this creep in Rahal-Letterman Racing. They now compete only in the American LeMans Series, having withdrawn from Indy Car due to lack of sponsorship. ( Looks like race sponsors are a whole lot smarter than TV sponsors.)

Leno has not been classy in years.
Compared to that perv Letterman, Leno is the epitome of good taste.
We can all bemoan the passing into history of the likes of Johnny Carson and his style of entertainment, unfortunately those days are gone for good.
I maintain that NBC did FAR better with Leno than they would have with Letterman.
