To me Letterman is less than a man BUT what bothers me the most is the laughter from the audience and the lack of feminine support for a young girl. He needed to be booed by the audience and attacked by the NOW gang.

The audience is largely made up of people who are just happy to be in the presence of a "celebrity" - they would never consider booing a famous person whose limelight they are briefly sharing in. :)

As for the NOW gang, they are engaged in a perpetual social civil war - they can hardly be expected to speak out against someone who is making fun of one of their arch-enemies, even if they would never tolerate such comments about one of their own.
