But I put gentlemen (actually gentleman) in italics! Italics are used for emphasis and, also, for irony. I was using italics when referring to him for irony. It's a common practice.
Yes, that’s one of my personal peeves, too. I once read an article which said something to the effect, “...and then the GENTLEMAN decapitated her...”
