Having lived in Tucson for a couple of years, and observed this interesting situation in Phoenix...I will offer this analysis.

The city management and the city cops of Phoenix...don’t have a positive view of Sheriff Joe. The city cops could lay out a hundred screw-ups with the Sheriff’s office and how things were mishandled.

Sheriff Joe continually gets re-elected but then it’s based off his tactics of treating criminals. The curious thing...when you examine the yearly crime rate in the city and the county...it’s stabilized (for at least ten years...maybe even longer). So whatever actions Joe takes on the criminals in his jail...doesn’t really matter anymore. The crime rate is not improving as you gaze across all the numbers.

I will also offer this....that if Sheriff Joe had broken any laws...the city cops would have handed evidence over to the state, and he would have been arrested already. This hasn’t happened. So he is staying on the legal side of events.

LOL I left AZ in the early 70s, it wasn’t all that bad then, but now - holy moly!

My sister is a cop in AZ - and she thinks Sheriff Joe is Da Bomb (i.e. most excellent). I get the impression that in AZ, police chiefs and Mayors suffer from the same disease - that of being politicians.....
