Kathleen Parker Hits New Low: Palin 'Invited' Letterman Sex Jokes, Seeks Power as 'Aphrodisiac'
Wednesday, June 10, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 06/10/2009 2:19:57 PM PDT by kristinn

Kathleen Parker, an obscure Washington Post syndicated columnist who made herself famous by attacking Republican Vice Presidential nominee Alaska Governor Sarah Palin last fall, said that Palin 'invited' vicious sex jokes made this week by CBS Television Late Night host David Letterman. Parker also made degrading, sexist comments of her own about Palin.

Parker made the comment in an online chat this afternoon at WashingtonPost.com

:Re: Letterman: Listen, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians that don't go over the line are not funny. If you said she looks slutty, that's over the line. If I say it, it's over the line. Why wouldn't Letterman say it - have you been on a plane?

Kathleen Parker: I don't have a problem with raunchy humor, but time and place are everything. In a nightclub, fine. But Letterman is sort of an American institution. It just seems to me that when a woman is running for public office, we should avoid sexualizing her.

Okay, I censored myself before so I'll say it now. I also think it's out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. So, maybe when you play the flirt and invite males to see starbursts bouncing off the walls (Lowry again), then maybe you invite the sexual punchline. I'm wobbling here.

Falls Church, Va.: I don't understand why this conversation continues. Don't. Give. Her. Any. More. Ink.

Kathleen Parker: As long as people are throwing money at her - and as long as the GOP treats her as a serious candidate - we're going to cover her.

Alas, I note that the poll featured on the front page of USA Today today doesn't mention Palin as a spokesperson for the GOP. She may be fading already.

I am told by people close to her that Palin and her family would love to turn back the clock to July 2008 . . . and just say "no" to John McCain. That may be the best indicator of her future political ambitions. OTOH, power is an addictive aphrodisiac.

"As long as people are throwing money at her"? It sounds like Parker is calling Palin a whore in so many words. Incredible.

“I also think it’s out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate.”

So Palin “ sexualized” her campaign by WINKING?

Nevermind the inherent sexism in going after Palin as opposed to the shirtless beach-comber Obama. I’ve got a simple truth for Parker: pretty much anything an attractive woman does can be sexually exciting to men. But she probably doesn’t know anything about that.

I also think it's out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy

What does that mean? If a woman looks pretty, she is sexualizing her candidacy?

Is Parker referring to when Governor Palin winked during the VP debate?

I remember when George Bush winked at Al Gore during their Presidential debate when Gore walked over to Bush. Was Bush coming on to Gore with that wink? Was Bush "sexualizing his candidacy"?

People like Parker and Letterman are giving themselves away with their comments about Governor Palin. Its obvious that they look down at ordinary working class Americans. You know, the people who actually make this country work as oppose to people like Parker and Letterman who just shovel BS for a living.

If Letterman had made a comment like that about one of the Obama kids, he’d be hanging from a lampost on 57th street, DEAD, right now....

"Enlightened" Liberal thinking states that such a comment about Obama's kids would be totally inappropriate and unfunny, because Obama is not a hypocrite on sexual morality issues like Palin is.

..This all bodes well for Palin..

I am not so sure. If the opposition makes you a national punching bag it can be hard to be taken seriously. That it what happened in 08 and it continues.

Thanks for the ping.

Typical of libs, they defend one of their own by completely ignoring the real issue, the most egregious offense given by Letterman’s disgusting perverted comments. Is Letterman “out of bounds” when he bashes Gov. Palin with his sexist comments. No, he’s not. Distasteful, mean-spirited and distinctly unfunny, yes. That’s been Letterman’s stock in trade for a decade at least.

No, where Letterman clearly went out of bounds was the brutal vicarious sexual assault of a 14 year old girl, who happens to be Gov. Palin’s daughter. Kathleen Parker completely and conveniently ignored the comment. I would like for her to address that one if she chose to. Liberals claim to be so easily offended by a kid eating a ham sandwich in school next to a moslem classmate. But this is such a blatantly offensive comment, and here’s why:

I would like Ms. Parker, every liberal pundit in America, and all of CBS’ executives to explain to every family in America that has been subjected to child molestation to explain just what they saw as “funny” about Letterman’s comment. That’s an explanation I’d love to hear.

In my opinion, having previously been a prosecutor who handled child molest cases, what Letterman did was little better than the vicarious rape of a 14 year old. The liberal media who support him are accomplices.

I am long past being surprised at the vile lies that come regularly out of the “state” propaganda media.

We who are supporting the Tea Parties and the 10th Amendment Statements are to look forward to the same treatment in the press.

They both hate and fear us.

I do not object to the “slutty flight attendant” line. It’s infantile, pathetic and stupid, and well with the normal course of a Letteman routine.

But making jokes about the rape of a 14-year-old girl ... That I object to. Joking about how a man infamous for sleeping with prostitutes is attracted to that same 14-year-old girl makes it even worse.

More important, she has to become educated and learned. But first, she has to want to. I'm not sure she has the intellectual curiosity necessary to bring her up to speed.

Spoken like a filthy, elitist pig snob.

So if obama tried to appeal sexually through his gestures or clothing (perhaps to metrosexual men?), then Sasha and Malia would be fair game for this sort of sleazy attack too? Good thing obama knows and follows Ms. Parker's standards ...

... or not.

Yeah, just like women “invite” rape, right, Kathleen? This nonsense is so behind the times.

Be interesting to start a Kathleen Parker humor Blog and see exactly how she responds to “humorous” criticism.

No, she needs to stew in her own juices. Don't patronize her or her columns online. Don't write to her complaining about her treatment of Palin because that's what she wants.
