Kathleen Parker Hits New Low: Palin 'Invited' Letterman Sex Jokes, Seeks Power as 'Aphrodisiac'

Kathleen Parker, an obscure Washington Post syndicated columnist who made herself famous by attacking Republican Vice Presidential nominee Alaska Governor Sarah Palin last fall, said that Palin 'invited' vicious sex jokes made this week by CBS Television Late Night host David Letterman. Parker also made degrading, sexist comments of her own about Palin.

Parker made the comment in an online chat this afternoon at WashingtonPost.com

:Re: Letterman: Listen, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians that don't go over the line are not funny. If you said she looks slutty, that's over the line. If I say it, it's over the line. Why wouldn't Letterman say it - have you been on a plane?

Kathleen Parker: I don't have a problem with raunchy humor, but time and place are everything. In a nightclub, fine. But Letterman is sort of an American institution. It just seems to me that when a woman is running for public office, we should avoid sexualizing her.

Okay, I censored myself before so I'll say it now. I also think it's out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. So, maybe when you play the flirt and invite males to see starbursts bouncing off the walls (Lowry again), then maybe you invite the sexual punchline. I'm wobbling here.

Falls Church, Va.: I don't understand why this conversation continues. Don't. Give. Her. Any. More. Ink.

Kathleen Parker: As long as people are throwing money at her - and as long as the GOP treats her as a serious candidate - we're going to cover her.

Alas, I note that the poll featured on the front page of USA Today today doesn't mention Palin as a spokesperson for the GOP. She may be fading already.

I am told by people close to her that Palin and her family would love to turn back the clock to July 2008 . . . and just say "no" to John McCain. That may be the best indicator of her future political ambitions. OTOH, power is an addictive aphrodisiac.

"As long as people are throwing money at her"? It sounds like Parker is calling Palin a whore in so many words. Incredible.

She did not wink. She ain’t stupid. It was Tina Fey who winked like a slut on Saturday Night Live that did the wink and people just assumed that Sarah did it. A professional who is a Vice President Candidate is not going to wink for God’s sakes. People are so stupid.

On the national stage, if nobody knows you did something, it didn't happen. And basically what happens in Alaska stays in Alaska. Politicians who slip back into obscurity tend to stay there.

You might think your comment was pro-Palin, but it was also grossly misinformed and illogical. It's only recently that she had a Downs child, and only recently that she gained any celebrity status. Using celebrity status to support a Downs or other charity is something to be expected in a moral person. That she did not do such before she had either celebrity or a Downs child has no bearing on what she should or can do today.

Did she volunteer to get into a fight with Letterman? No. And did she 'get into the gutter' with her response? No. Did she appropriately stand up for herself and her family? Yes.

And does it do her credit to have a public brush up with others in the GOP? Yes, if she's on the right side of the issues and they aren't.

Hiding for 4 years, when the GOP is rudderless, is not going to be of help to anybody. Nor would it do Alaska any good for the congress, and the national GOP to be allowed to forget that it is out there somewhere to the Northwest. Part of her job is to lobby for Alaska's interests on the national stage.

She will get attacked, because the Left sees her as an potent opponent. Better that happens over the next 4 years, rather than those attacks being stockpiled for the 2012 election cycle.

This Parker is a real dope. Maybe she’s hoping to join the panel on “The View”.

The nastiness continues and would only continue with ANYONE who opposes their Precious. I say these nasty comments are going to backfire and people who have been ignorant will realize they have been fed this bias and hate and these people are also tied to 0bama so they can join in when things continue to decline and finally come back to 0bama’s actions.

Here comes mine... Kathleen Parker's daughter admires Bill Clinton so much that she has photographs from under ever desk Clinton has ever used papering her bedroom wall. She dreams of one day experiencing his glory. HAHAHAHAHAHAh!! What a hoot!

OK, not bad... Here comes mine: I think Kathleen Parker is attractive in that she has that "Maureen Dowd slut look."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ROTFLMAO!

If Kathleen Parker is a “conservative” columnist, why is it that all of her mockery is leveled at conservatives?
