I know why they had to respond, but Letterman’s comments were really beneath the dignity of any kind of reply whatsoever.
If they would not ever be repeated, I'd agree with you. If Letterman was chastized or shamed by his peers, I'd agree with you. If there were a broad based public outrage, I'd agree with you. If it had never happened before, and we believed it would not ever happen again, I'd agree with you. But... I disagree with you.

To the contrary—no response would have demonstrated lack of spine, the sort of sniveling behavior mostly seen in liberals.
The Palins’ response shows good character, and really serves to confirm their reputation as upstanding citizens and responsible parents.
