N. Korean paper defines nuke deterrent as means of aggression
SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Tuesday described its nuclear weapons capability as means of both self-protection and "merciless aggression" towards those violating its sovereignty, the first acknowledgment by the country that it may use its nuclear weapons other than for defensive measures.
"Our nuclear deterrence capability is a powerful defensive measure to secure the peace and stability of the Joseon (Korean) peninsula and nearby regions. It will become a vehicle for merciless attacks on those who even slightly infringe upon our sovereignty," said Minju Joson, North Korea's Cabinet newspaper, through a commentary.
North Korea has previously described its nuclear weapons program as means of either maintaining peace in the region or strengthening its self-protective power. It was the first time that the North has termed the program a vehicle for possible future attacks.
The paper also said that the political tension between North Korea and regional powers only goes to retroactively justify the legitimacy of its nuclear deterrent development.
Meanwhile, Rodong Sinmun, a paper published by the country's Workers' Party, also suggested to its "enemies" that North Korea considers a good offense as its ultimate defensive scheme.
"Our self-protective measure is to relentlessly crush invaders by striking them preemptively," the paper said.
Ping!
China has got to control these guys before someone gets hurt.
China: “We’re just innocent bystanders”
You know what happens to innocent bystanders.
Obama said these countries don’t pose a threat, they are tiny.
I hope they can at least reach San Francisco
If China stirs the pot, or allows it boil over, to mix a metaphor, Japan and South Korea are likely to go nuclear. A nuclear Japan scares the whiskers off anyone with half a brain, even the Chi-Coms.
I like to hope that the Chinese, their neighbors and the what remains of the west can live in peace for a few more generations, at least. I would mind a nuclear missile on Peking, the thought of almost a million people dieing a horrible death is not appealing to me. I am sure most of the people of Hiroshima swelled with nationalistic pride after Pearl Harbor, still they paid a horrible price.
Thanks for reiterating the good news from our dear leader...I was getting a little worried. Now I can get back to petting puppies and chasing butterflies this afternoon.
While I understand your sentiment, that is uncalled for. That is America.
Weaponry designed by the Japanese should scare anyone far more than weaponry designed by the Chinese.
I think Japan should be able to defend itself though. They have kept their word and not developed weapons but the US has voted in countless Presidents who could give a rats behind on what some President agreed to 80 odd years ago.
Just look at how Obama views agreements and promises made to Israel by President Bush. That nutjob thinks that nothing that happened before he became President and so since HE didn’t promise, HE shouldn’t have to keep it.
No, Japan had better get on the ball.
I would let them secede first, of course. That problem would be solved.
or
I didn’t say I wouldn’t get revenge for those trolley cars.
hehe
I like those trolley cars! They go ding ding and everything! :o)
BTTT
This from a Nth-rate country that infringed upon our sovereignty by capturing and keeping our ship, the USS Pueblo.
We should have scuttled our own ship as soon as its crew was safely back aboard a US vessel -- with the largest thermonuclear device in our arsenal. It is not too late: we should quote the above to Chia-Head -- and sink it by that means NOW!
The fact that the DPRK chose to moor it as a floating "Gloating Museum" right in the middle ofPyongyang is North Korea's problem.
