The top federal prosecutor in Chicago is threatening to sue publisher HarperCollins, calling a book about the war on terrorism that focuses in part on cases he was involved in "a deliberate lie masquerading as the truth."
If HarperCollins publishes the new edition of "Triple Cross" by Peter Lance this month "and it defames me or casts me in a false light, HarperCollins will be sued," Patrick Fitzgerald said in a letter to the New York-based company.
The book focuses on, among other things, major terrorism cases that Fitzgerald prosecuted when he was an assistant U.S. attorney in New York in the 1990s.
Its content goes beyond normal criticism, which "goes with the territory" for public figures, Fitzgerald told The Associated Press on Monday.
"This is different," he said. "The book lied about the facts and alleged that I deliberately misled the courts and the public in ways that in part caused the deaths in the 1998 embassy bombing attacks and in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001."
*snip*
Over the last 20 months Fitzgerald has tried to "kill" "Triple Cross" in its hardcover and paperback editions with "baseless" allegations, Lance said.

The best part of Triple Cross is the way Lance weaves together the different strands of the 9/11 story and enhances them with his own original reporting on each. For example, the book quotes from numerous interviews Lance conducted with Tony Shaffer, Curt Weldon, and other members of the Able Danger team. While not a full history of Able Danger, it has by far the most complete version in any book published to date.

I’ll always be suspicious of what went on with Able Danger.
Fitz is a hack. He is worried about the truth coming out.
What goes around...

Is this the Fitz that went in front of national TV and knowingly, falsely, accused Scooter Libby of committing a crime and then refused to indict him for it?
I’ll believe Lance before I would believe the dishonorable and dishonest Fitz.
Same hack.
Well somebody screwed up in the 90’s.
Let him sue! That will double their sales and he will get nothing.
Victoria Toensing picked Fitzgerald apart in the Washington Post:

She sure did ... I wish we’d see her
commenting on this admin. She’s never
on Fox anymore.
But, I think it is interesting from the standpoint of having a sitting US Attorney publicly threaten to sue a private company, civilly. I don't know if this isn't some kind of precedent.
I’ll check this out later.
Thanks.
Hey Patrick, I’ll bet you Scooter Libby wishes that it was only a book that disparaged him. At least your freedom, family and career wasn’t taken from you.
And after he - like Charlie Crist - got married last year, for the 1st time (to a women) to satisfy the voting public. What a sham!
The Justice Department went out of its way to sabotage Weldon.
What comes around, goes around.
“Patrick Fitzgerald accuses me of making charges in the book that I never made,” Lance said. “At the same time, he continually fails to respond to the substantive allegations documented in 604 pages, 1,425 end notes and 32 pages of documentary appendices.”
“Out of an abundance of caution and considering that the threat was coming from, perhaps the most powerful federal prosecutor in the country, we revetted the entire book,” Lance said.”
Sounds like a ‘Must Read’! Thanks for the ping.
Where is Fitz on the Blago indictment? Is he still negotiating his pay-off from Obama and Rahm?
Col. Shaffer got a bad deal! There is no question about it.!
[And after he - like Charlie Crist - got married last year. . .]
Some of my family lives in Florida. My mother and sister—both Republicans—refer to Crist as the “Silver Fag.”
