Recent reports (here and here) in the media have been highlighting California Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggers kicking around of ideas aimed at reducing his states gargantuan budget deficit, which is currently projected to reach 21.3 billion dollars later this year, with one of the ideas being a proposal to end state funding of CalWORKS, which is the states self-proclaimed welfare-to-work program.
It has to be said that much of this kicking around is a result of the turndown just last month by the states voters of a number of propositions (1A through 1E) aimed at California voters were assured eventually balancing the states budget through a combination tax extensions and supposed budget cuts, though none of the budget cuts were hard-and-fast mandates and there didnt seem to be an actual defined end to the tax extensions voters were also being asked to approve.
Fortunately for California taxpayers, the voters appeared to have finally had enough of the states profligate spending done under a Republican governor and with the full collusion of the Democrat-dominated state legislature and called a halt to any further tax increases or extensions until some sort of fiscal sanity is restored. Naturally enough, and like a junkie who begs for just one more fix until he goes cold turkey, the state is casting about for some sort of help from the federal government in the form of a de facto bailout, prettied up in words such as stimulus or short term funding.

It's "Fools Gold" anymore anyway.....
Turn it into the Sacajawea state, made of an alloy of several cheap metals that only costs 3 cents?
Swell...They’ll all come running for MN and our big-hearted liberal welfare state....
1. Outsource state government to the Chinese.
- Or -
2. Cut spending.
Not much else will work.
How about a less than half time legislature?
***Turn it into the Sacajawea state, made of an alloy of several cheap metals that only costs 3 cents?***
Might as well put Susan B Anthony on the other side.
Or Helen Thomas.
