Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is planning to attend the joint House-Senate fundraising dinner tonight, according to sources familiar with her schedule, ending a back and forth between the vice presidential nominee and the two congressional campaign committees that goes back for months.
Palin was initially invited to keynote tonight's gathering, which will benefit the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, as the keynote speaker.
Depending on whom you believe, Palin either accepted and then reneged or never accepted in the first place. Either way, the two congressional committees moved on -- inviting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) to stand in for Palin.

It’s amateur hour at the GOP, Palin included. If they can’t get their act together for a stupid@$$ dinner, how do they expect to start winning national elections again.
Rejecting a ‘key note’ to address two groups stuck in ‘no-drive’ is a well-advised course IMHO!
How is this Palin’s fault? Certain persons at the GOP are pulling off this crap. You blame her?
I blame them all, including her. I'm tired of the juvenile, unprofessional back-biting while our country burns to the ground. They all need to get over themselves, find a message that works and stick to it.
The pubbies reversed course, probably feeling the heat of Palin’s grassroots raising hell.
Gingrich is washed up. He’s damaged goods.
GOP Leader Working Behind Scenes To Get Palin Reinvited To Big Fundraiser
The RINOs got burned badly today by the grassroots and had to back up and eat crow.
And this is her fault how, monkey?
He screwed up the Contract with America by not making it happen. He is the current version of Bob Dole.
She could have cleared this up months ago, had she a professional press person in AK.
Chris Wallace alluded to this several weeks ago on Fox News Sunday when, during the panel discussion, he said that the feeling that his staff and other at FNC get is that her press office is completely disorganized. No one, including Kristol and Hume disagreed.
Yeah...that’s the note the jackels at the WaPo want to sound...the GOP are completely disorganized...and this stupid woman is still around.
I hope Palin gives a stunning speech.
Agreed...the GOP had an opportunity with the Contract to change American life and politics for a generation...and Newt blew it.
Instead of abolishing the Washington executive washroom, he just changed the lock on the door.
Alinsky's Rules for Radicals: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."
It doesn't matter if Gingrich is targeted because as you say he's "damaged goods." He's taking shots for the team. He's used to being their target.
We need to find him a job selling insurance somewhere. I am SICK of the old man...IT’S TIME TO PASS THE BATON NEWT!!!
NEW BLOOD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. He’s part of the failed policymakers who should have been flushed after the debacles of 2006 and 2008.
When your team screws up TWICE in a row - BADLY you change management. You don’t reward incompetents by keeping them on.
The Contract with America was a GREAT thing. But the failure of the GOP COngress to follow up on it screwed things up.
Kristol and HUME are talking heads.
WE are the grassroots who are energized by her, just like the 20,000 who went to see her the other day.
Sometimes we are energized by her just because she stands up to the GOP status que. The grassroots Revolution is already rolling, and off to a GRAND start.
Marcus Rubio is the other candidate we will support, he like Sarah are the real deal AND what the grassroots want.
This whole thing is a smudge, it has become a dog and pony show for the entertainment of the liberals.
??????????????????????
I don’t understand. The GOP leadership is in denial with respect to its mission and has broken faith with its rank and file.
The idiot in the White House is screwing things up royally. He’s making the DNC a great target.
We need new faces and new leaders. We DON’T need people who aren’t going to stand up to the Democrats and their failures like Soto-Mayor.
Newt has had it. He needs to retire. He is part of a failed past.
