Laura explains Bush 'silence' Defends Cheney
Politico ^ | 6/08.09 | By CAROL E. LEE

Former first lady Laura Bush said while her husband, George W. Bush, does not think it’s appropriate for a former president to criticize his successor, she understands why former Vice President Dick Cheney has.

“That’s his right as a citizen of the U.S., and I think he also feels obligated and so I understand why he wants to speak out,” Bush said in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “On the other hand George feels like as a former president that he owes President Obama his silence on issues and that there’s no reason to second guess any decisions he makes.”

The former first lady also approves of Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, saying “she sounds like a very interesting and good nominee.”

“As a woman I’m proud that there might be another woman on the court,” Bush said. “So we’ll see what happens, but I wish her well.”

Asked about the infighting within the Republican Party, Bush said while she and former President Bush “talk about it a lot,” it’s “probably not that bad.”

“I think it’s just a very typical political cycle,” she said of the GOP’s shrinking status. “It’s like creative tension within a party for people to talk about what it is they – how they want to be represented

Once again so Christian of you. I especially like the snarky comments.

BTW got any facts to support your contentions about your great President?

Ah another cheap shot. Once again how Christian of you and BTW the people who judge history will not be kind to your boy.

When are you going to lay off the snarky cheap shots and post some FACTS about your President (of course you just do not want to be trapped by your facts) What a crock.

Your right. Thank goodness JR had the sense to start the W mini-puge two years ago.

Look, SuziQ, your loyalty to W, a good man, is commendable.

We owe the man a lot. He kept us safe. But he did not assert leadership here at home.
e.g., he couldn't demand time ....

He sure as hell could have.

The Republican Party could have bought advertising for him, but, weenies that they are,...yadda yadda yadda

As Party Leader it's POTUS job to break heads when needed. GW had some flaws in office that are just plain hard to ignore (IMHO):
(A)Poor Communicator,
(B)Disinterested in Party Discipline and Leadership,
(C)Absolutely impervious to advice when needed,
(D) Deaf to constituent concerns, i.e., illegal immigration and border control. Massive spending.

Complain all you want about the MSM. It is absolutely a left-wing wolf pack. But just like wolves, they search out the weakest link among their prey. They found it.

The President is not a dictator; he can't 'fix' everything that's wrong.

GW turned out a very low number of Executive Orders and very rarely found the wherewithal to veto many of the remarkably bad... even disastrous ... bills put before him. A President cannot "fix" everything, but he sure as hell can enforce his will and promote his constituents' wishes. I thank God we had George for the past 8 years. Now let's find the worthy successor he couldn't.

That is, waddaya say we end this denial about some aspects of GW's performance in office, stop feeling sorry for him, and figure out who the next GOP candidate is going to be? I say draft General Petraeus, he is just the man to stop this preposterous jerk now in office before he gets his second term.

Disagreeing with you is not "denial" Kenny Bunk.

And there is no "feeling sorry" for President Bush going on.

He did his best, he is satisfied that he did his best, content with who he is as a child of God and follower of Jesus Christ; he is living in peace and with the love of his life in Texas, pursuing his desire to help those in need; support for him is growing as the media lies fade and the truth of Obama's horror arises.

How can anyone feel sorry for a man so richly blessed? Certainly not anyone who knows who this man is.

Here, here! Now that is something that I agree whole heartedly. Petraeus would make an excellent prez...another Ike. I just wish that DUH-pee-yew would have listened to him about the necessity of the surge that is/will win OIF before the 2006 "thumpin'".

Whom we feel sorry for is YOU! Your blind loyalty to someone you obviously adore might seem commendable but is ridiculously misplaced as it should be instead to your country, not a failed president. You stormed out of here about two years ago in a huff, like a little girl whose feelings were hurt when she wasn't picked to star in a school ballet. Now you return with insults and rudeness to anyone who disagrees with your point of view. About the only thing I respect about you is that you have a son serving his country (for that I'm thankful).

I don't care what you think about anything, so you may continue with your distortions and fantasies about who I am.

But please don't say anything further about my son, good or bad.....especially claiming to respect him, or me for raising him.

It is because my husband and I love our country so deeply and so profoundly that we raised a son who was willing to sacrifice his freedom for the American people and serve his country in the military.

It is impossible to have the complete disregard for the truth of who I am as you do, and respect the son I've raised.

So don't even try.

Please don't post to me again.

It’s on there, I’ve seen it! Maybe you can’t see it, because you can’t see past the end of your nose?

So, what do you do, but attack her back? She admitted she gave into an attack, and she owned up to it. Then she apologized for it, in a moment of frustration! Can’t you be big enough to do the same? Or are you too high and mighty? I read what she said. I read what you said, too! Some of you Bush ‘critics’ can sure dish out the junk, but you sure can’t take it, can you?

"Some of you Bush ‘critics’ can sure dish out the junk, but you sure can’t take it, can you?"

What ever are you talking about? I am not a Bush critic I just want the FACTS presented in the proper light. The LIE that he protected us is simply not credible. But I understand that people like you will do anything to avoid terrorism but are perfectly happy to sleep well at night when there are illegal invaders running amok raping, pillaging and murdering your fellow citizens. I get it as long as it isn't a big dramatic thing you are OK with it.

I will also make this prediction. The next terrorist attack of large proportions will be executed on the Homeland by Islamist radicals who slipped through the Southern Border on W's watch.

If you call OWF's "apology" good enough then you have low standards for apologies. - especially when it was followed up with snarky comments to other FReepers. That is ok I can take it. I just keep asking for one of you W supporters to actually post some FACTS. I do not even care which ones you pick.

No problem! I’ll be happy to “mind my own business”, when you decide to practice what you preach, ok? You ‘critics of Pres. Bush’ rush in to defend each other, we supporters can do that too, eh?

Yeah!

LOL...oh yes you are, you don’t fool me a bit! You’re so predictable! You don’t like your Bush-bashing playground invaded, do you? So when some other posters defend our last Pres., you don’t like it, so you try to drive them off! I know what you’re up to!

Well some of us who supported him have the right to do that still, just as much as you ‘critics’ to criticize. If we are asked to leave by the owner/operator of this board, I expect we will. Will you do the same, if asked? I wonder!

I am sorry I said nasty things about your mother, dropping you on your head, and mentioning Nurse Ratchett.

I should never have said such things, even in jest, as I did.

It was immature of me to allow your needling insults and false accusations to make me respond in such a fashion, and I am sorry I did.

I am not sorry that I suggested you get professional help, nor am I sorry that I said that being eaten up by your own angry bile is a pathetic way to live. Being angry all the time IS a pathetic way to live, but you have the right to choose such a life as you have.

Now I ask your forgiveness for my unkind words.

Obviously, some here don't believe we have that right.

Freedom of speech is only for them, I guess. So you need to shut up and go away, dsutah.

Don't you understand this very basic conservative principle? ;)

Uh right, this is what you're talking about: Pray for President Obama ...well I pray for the U.S. of A. and pray that Mr. O's policies fail before they destroy us all!
