Laura explains Bush 'silence' Defends Cheney
Politico ^ | 6/08.09 | By CAROL E. LEE

Posted on 06/08/2009 6:58:16 AM PDT by meandog

Former first lady Laura Bush said while her husband, George W. Bush, does not think it’s appropriate for a former president to criticize his successor, she understands why former Vice President Dick Cheney has.

“That’s his right as a citizen of the U.S., and I think he also feels obligated and so I understand why he wants to speak out,” Bush said in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “On the other hand George feels like as a former president that he owes President Obama his silence on issues and that there’s no reason to second guess any decisions he makes.”

The former first lady also approves of Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, saying “she sounds like a very interesting and good nominee.”

“As a woman I’m proud that there might be another woman on the court,” Bush said. “So we’ll see what happens, but I wish her well.”

Asked about the infighting within the Republican Party, Bush said while she and former President Bush “talk about it a lot,” it’s “probably not that bad.”

“I think it’s just a very typical political cycle,” she said of the GOP’s shrinking status. “It’s like creative tension within a party for people to talk about what it is they – how they want to be represented

Didn't your mother love you when you were a baby? Did she drop you on your wee little head? :) Once again.......back to the adults. You can go back to Nurse Ratchett......

Please, can we have some civil discourse here! You were once a daily prayer leader, after all, OhioWFan. Now you seem to be as nasty as your beloved Ohio Buckeye football team.

If W said anything in this climate and culture, let’s face it, it would be like urinating into a river of feces.

The media is completely leftist and charged with an agenda. I believe his silence is smart right now.

Remember, he is writing a book. I will be interested to know what he has to say in THAT format...one that can’t really be spun and twisted.

As for his bad communication skills...I saw him speak in Davenport, Iowa before the second election. He was a wonderful speaker. I know that the media took any mis-statement of his and snowballed it into a major problem...but the man spoke, A LOT, and I think, without a teleprompter. There was plenty of material because Bush spoke A LOT in front of cameras, WITHOUT a teleprompter.

Barack’s gaffes don’t get the same exposure. Even WITH the teleprompter there are gaffes.

I see Laura as being gracious. With all the hatred directed at them from the unreasonable left, I find this modesty and grace to be the best reaction. Remember, hard-liners were convinced that Laura is a cold-blooded murderer because she was in a fatal accident in high school.

Horrible things were said about the twins and then Jenna wrote a book and appeared on talk shows after her charity work and it was a wonderful thing to be able to point out to those who had said the WORST possible things about both twins.

I always feel that example is more powerful than words, and until Bush’s book comes out...I am content to watch the political theatre between Obama and Cheney and Pelosi. The media as it is now, is advocating taking Fox News off the air and is overtly hostile to anything associated with the Bush administration. So, I don’t think it would be productive for him to take a leak in the river of poo.

Nothing funnier than some white emulating ghetto tuff-talk over the internet. I bet you turned your baseball cap backwards when you typed that.

LOL! It was a joke after all the nasty, albeit dopey ad hominem attacks you made about me (I forgot how sensitive you Bush haters were.....)

For the record, there were no "Viking Kitties" involved in my departure. I never so much as had a single post deleted. For the record.

Now I shall do to you what I have done to meandog, and place you on permanent "ignore," where you should have been in the first place.

Bye.

Not all of them, and not throwing pearls before swine, I suppose. Besides, He knew one day His word would be enough to take care of all enemies of the innocent.

Rev 19:11 “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a] He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great.”

19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.”

I just skimmed this thread but here is a thought or two ...

We are told by Bush haters that GW was/is a poor communicator, that he didnt “sell” the war. The left says that is all he did do, “sell” the war.... supposedly lieing while he did it.

We are also told that Obama is a great communicator ....? ok...

Give me the stupid guy anytime over this smart one.

People dont remember but Reagan’s history was(and is) distorted by the left...It took a while for Reagan to be considered as great as he is....”Reagan was STUPID” can still be found on the left.

Soon Obama’s real “accomplishments” will be such that no one can ignore them ....Then GW Bush will look mighty good in comparison and I think most of the Bush haters here will quietly slink away.

Your point about Bush haters, left and right making opposite criticisms is right on target. Basically, people so emotionally invested in hating this good man deserve to be dismissed. Neither end of the spectrum has a valid argument.

A poster above talked about hearing President Bush speak. I heard him live four times in four different venues and each time, he was incredibly articulate, knowledgeable, and in possession of great communication skills.

The facts will win out in the end, and as you have said, the slinking away of his attackers will begin.

None too soon, I might add....

You're making the EXACT case of why he should be talking. Yes, the media hate him; the loony toons on the left do too. So what does he have to lose if he goes Cartersque?

Bush and his papa parry the left the same way they fight wars: Half-assed! His old man somehow pulled a stalemate out of a overwhelming victory on the Highway of Death in the first Gulf War and let a brutal tyrant remain in power. GWB waited until the 2006 "thumpin'" before he committed to the Petraeus-sponsored surge that is winning OIF. And I'll never forget it from either of them!

The left and media hated Reagan too, but he shoved it back in their pusses with rhetoric that went to the people and inspired us.

At least W could do the same...he'd salvage some measure of respect if he fought back!

Where did I EVER post anything hateful about your precious W. (I understand that in your world not agreeing is hate, but I am talking about REAL hateful things - - you know adult. I understand that is a difficult concept for you) Give direct examples.

Put up or shut up.

LOL...have not heard that in a while. I used to say that often, felt pretty good.

No, I made the case I made. Actions speak louder than words in these times. The pendulum will swing without a president becoming “in yer face” apres office.

“The left and media hated Reagan too, but he shoved it back in their pusses with rhetoric that went to the people and inspired us.”

But you are saying that Bush should speak NOW. I must have missed the record of Reagan speaking out against presidents following him once he was out of office.
