Krauthammer said something on either Friday’s Special Report without Brit Hume or on Fox’s Sunday program that the problem was caused by the Arabs’ refusal of accepting Israel’s right to exist all the way from Israel’s war of independence against five Arab neighbors to today. Once they accept Israel’s right to exist (and for real, not just as a temporary condition), the Arab/Israeli problems will go from an existential conflict to a negotiation on borders, which is infinitely more solvable.
Of course, and that’s what makes the Middle East conflict unsolvable. Until or unless the Palestinians and the Arab states (exclusive of Egypt) accept Israel’s right to exist as a sovereign state, there will be no peace. The failure of Arab states and organizations to make any such admission is an intentional strategy. I am quite certain they are willing to wait 100 years or more if necessary until the Arabs states are strong enough and/or Israel is weak enough for them to seize the land they covet.
