Airline Insiders News Roundup

It’s been an eventful week in the world of aviation. Of course, the story that’s still dominating the news is that of the crash into the Atlantic waters off Brazil of Air France Flight 447, an Airbus A330-200 jet airliner carrying 228 passengers and crew.

There were no survivors, making this the deadliest crash since 2001, when American Airlines Flight 587, a somewhat larger Airbus A300-600 carrying 251 passengers and 9 crewmembers crashed shortly after takeoff from New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) into a neighborhood in nearby Queens. In addition to those on the airliner, another 5 people on the ground lost their lives in this tragic accident.

There are no similarities between the two crashes, though they should serve to remind us that anything built by humans — and operated by them — is subject to failure. We aren’t perfect and neither are the things we make, though it can be said that, without doubt, the aircraft we make are by far some of the safest and most reliable machines ever made in the short history of machine-powered aviation.

I’ve got to steal that photo. I was a big Maiden fan in the 80s.

There are no similarities between the two crashes..

Nope. Nothing common between them that I can think of. Nothing at all.
