Hard to imagine this story being flipped, with Bush as the verbal target. In fact, I think most would agree it would be impossible.

To this day, pin-headed, ultra-liberal folks I know “hate the state of Texas” and “anyone they meet from there”, since that is Bush’s state and generally trends red. They gladly tell everyone they know such things, looking into your eyes, proclaiming it loudly and with nodding sincerity.

Interesting comment. My family moved from Houston to a small town outside of Morristown, N.J. in 1964. My first couple of weeks in Junior High School were accompanied by a great deal of hostility from many of my fellow students who proclaimed Texas to be a state full of murderers.

Guilt by association...I was responsible for the assassination of JFK. At one point I was accosted by a group of students and threatened with bodily harm, but one individual whom I had befriended took my side and thus defused the situation.

Eventually I was accepted, but ignorance always paints with a broad brush...and Texas (as well as all of the South) is looked down upon by those in the North Eastern United States.
