The Gitmo Myth and the Torture Carnard
Commentary Magazine ^ | June 2009 | Arthur Herman

Posted on 06/06/2009 5:41:09 AM PDT by pleikumud

On January 21, 2009, President Barack Obama issued his first executive order: He was closing the detention center at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba and calling a halt to the military commissions created in late 2001 to try terrorist suspects detained there. Like the startling opening chord of a Beethoven symphony, Obama’s action was intended to herald a new tone in America’s “war on terror” and a restoration of America’s moral standing.

Then several strange things happened. Obama’s order “closing” Gitmo actually left it open for a year, ostensibly until new arrangements could be made for the 240 or so inmates still detained there—though Obama admitted privately it might have to stay open longer than that. Later, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that, far from being “the Bermuda Triangle of human rights” that Human Rights Watch’s Wendy Patten had dubbed it, Gitmo was in full compliance with the humane-treatment provisions of the Geneva Convention. Meanwhile, the military commissions, which Human Rights Watch and others groups had denounced as a travesty of justice, were only being suspended for 120 days, pending a review—and, indeed, following that review, will be reinstated almost exactly as they were before. ----------------------------------------------------------

It is, of course, a lie. But it is of a piece with the entire Gitmo myth, which was constructed to ruin the Bush administration and blacken the reputation of the United States. The careful construction of this myth caused America to turn on itself in the midst of a still desperate struggle against Islamist terrorism. The consequences of this sea change in opinion may turn out to be measured not in political gains and losses by our major parties but in a revival of the fortunes of America’s foes.

This article shows how the Demo-Socialists have lied about Gitmo. As Dick Cheney said, only 3 terrorist were subjected to enhanced interrogation, and the information gathered saved thousands of American lives.

All Freepers knew it was a lie. Unfortunately for the Leftwingtards who perpetrated the lie, it has made many of us resolve to make the remainder of their lives a hell on earth to the degree possible.

How dare those smarm merchants who cut live babies into little pieces accuse us of torturing terrorist scum.

...Obama’s action was intended to herald a new tone in America’s “war on terror”...

...It's called "surrender".

In VEEEEETnam when an inexperienced officer gave an order that no one could or would obey...they ‘fragged him’.

This article is wrong, prisoners at Gitmo are sometimes tortured.
The Soupe des Hortillonnages is served cold.
They often run out of Smoked Salmon Caviar.
The Foie gras with caramelized onion is overcooked.
And other prisoners hog the Plougastel Strawberries in vanilla shell desert.
Plus the Prison has a hard time keeping the French Chefs happy. They are very fickle and quit on the spot.

Really, did you ever try to hire a new souse chef? It can be a real b*tch.

The thing that burns me is that we all know Gitmo and Guantanamo cases were NOTHING but hazing prisoners (college girls go through worse hazings than these maggot terrorists did), and that the little terrorists got hteir feeligns hurt, and heaven forbid we hurt hte feelings of terrorists, or make htem go without sleep, and we all know terrorists do ACTUAL torture on our soldiers when captured, but htere’s not a darn hting we are goign to do about situations like htis no matter how much we talk about it because Obama and hte dems are goign to do just exactly what they want to regardless of how many pundits speak out against his policies- The judge WILL be confimred, Tax evaders and violators HAVE BEEN elected to prominent positions- Global warming cap and trade WILL go htough putting a very heavy tax burden on us all, Government IS taking over health care and taking control of big businesses, Trillions ARE being WASTED, Crooks, baby murderers, pedophiles etc are all being elected to offices, etc etc etc

Public opinion will have absolutely no effect on any of Obama’s moronic policies- This is a terrible period in time, and unfortu nately, there is nothign we are goign to do to stop the madness
