One of the inherent difficulties with a democratic republic is that it is only as good as the people in it. When a people lose their moral equilibrium, live in sin, and suffer the consequent loss of wisdom, then that nation's days are numbered.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Study the republics of the last 2,000 years and you see our current situation mirrored.

I must disagree to an extent that the beginning of the rot is life issues. It starts with selfishness and self-centeredness. Thinking only of oneself and possessions, pleasure, comfort, etc., is where it starts. This leads to the life issues being compromised, because various humans don't want to be inconvenienced, sacrifice and all that stuff that's "hard."

I just believe that lack of a willingness to have true Christian charity and a giving heart is where the rot begins.
