The federal government yesterday moved forward with a controversial proposal that would close weather offices at 20 regional air traffic control centers around the country and instead provide controllers with forecasts from two central units in Maryland and Missouri.

Yeah but we got 20 trillion dollars to spend on GM!
Given that weather is largely calculated with Sat. tech nowadays, this seems like an overdue move, if a bit ill-timed.
However, I am far from an expert in such things. Not sure if T-heads are easier to predict and manage with local offices or not.
They need a bailout check. 47 billion should do it.
We lost our local office some 20 years ago and the weather forecasting for our area has not been as accurate since it closed.
From what I can tell the only thing the FAA signed up for are some stimulus funds to change air conditioning systems. Yep, I’m NOT kidding.
Must need more money for the UAW and Acorn.
The net result is that forcasters have to write forecasts for a multitude of stations intead of just the one they are at. There is no way they can know to update those forecasts as quickly as a local forecaster who only cares about his own weather.
I have been written completely legal miltary forecasts twice that would have sent me to fields that were not suitable due to weather because the forecasters weren't updating quickly enough. Fortunately, I pulled up the local observation which didn't checkout with what my weather brief said.
So, what do you think this will do to the average temperature as far as the global warming lie is concerned. We all ready know that they closed hundreds of weather monitoring stations that were in isolated out of the way places in the early “90”s. That is one of the ways they were able to convince people the temperatures were getting warmer.
“There is no way they can know to update those forecasts as quickly as a local forecaster who only cares about his own weather.”
In THAT case, this sounds like a terrible, awful idea, placed in stark relief for it’s stupidity by AF 447. It is just a wild guess but I suspect it is likely that the reason we have had so few accidents in US airspace is due to this local system. That mid-ocean space was all the more dangerous because it is more difficult to monitor, and may not have fallen into anyone’s clear area of responsibility.
Amazingly, our government is now in the business of bailing out banks and labor unions, while it cuts back on services which save people’s lives. In the meantime, the MSM cheers The Anointed One on every day.
