"one of his friends arrived on the scene and asked to take possession of the car. When police checked his car, they found drugs and another weapon."

This story was poorly researched. What gave them the right to check his buddie's car? Is he on parole? If so, he wasn't supposed to be hanging out with his parole buddy in the first place. If he wasn't on parole, did he actually give them permission to search his car? Was he that dumb?

This story brings up more questions than it answers. Oh and to the Philly police chief that wants to ban semi auto weapons, guess what? This parolee is not supposed to have firearms in the first place. He was already breaking the law dope.

Stand by for the usual reaction. "Philly has XX,000 concealed carry permits, what do you expect? We must renew calls in the state legislature for preemption. Philly's hands are tied until we can make our own laws."
