Assemblyman Roger Niello, who cast a key vote to pass a state budget that raised taxes this year, has been replaced as the GOP's point man on the Assembly Budget Committee.

The Fair Oaks Republican will hand his committee post to Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, R-Gerber, who is a freshman in the lower house but served a dozen years in the Senate, leaving in 1990.

The switch was made by the Assembly's new Republican leader, Sam Blakeslee of San Luis Obispo, who has stressed that taxes cannot be raised again in tackling a $24.3 billion shortfall.

For whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee.

Is that Roger Niello or California conservatives since Jimbo was on the Austrian's transiton team, at the request of Pete Wilson, and will vote for tax increases.

Who looses?

Niello, because he was booted out of his leadership position, ostensibly for double crossing his constituents?

Taxpayers, because Nielson, a consummate insider, a Republican moderate, is now the voice of the Republican Caucus in Assembly budget negotiations?

Or was it the California Republican Party rank and file , because of Blakeslee's deception which implied that Nielson is more fiscally conservative than Niello?

This insider stunt was loose-loose-loose on so many levels.

Yes, I'd say my old acquaintence with Roger would bear out my fear of him as being way too loose with other people's money!!!

What right does any Republicken have to roll over to the will of CA's lawmakers that are hell-bent of bankrupting the state and everybody in it???

Regardless... It's good to be back home again in CA!!!
