“Jihadi Murder Trial Begins in Little Rock”
by IPT News • Jul 18, 2011 at 3:51 pm

SNIPPET: “The capital murder trial of Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad - formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe - began Monday in Little Rock, Ark. Muhammad is charged with shooting to death Army Pvt. William Long and wounding Private Quinton Ezeagwula outside a military recruiting station there on June 1, 2009. Muhammad faces the death penalty if convicted of murdering Pvt. Long.”

SNIPPET: “But Muhammad bought guns and ammunition, and in late May decided to strike. First, he drove from Memphis to Nashville and threw a Molotov cocktail at what he thought was a local rabbi’s home. He then drove to Florence, Ky. and tried to attack an Army recruiting center but found it closed. Frustrated, Muhammad traveled to Little Rock on June 1 and opened fire on Long and Ezeagwula as they smoked cigarettes outside a recruiting station.

Muhammad has refused to cooperate with his attorneys. He wrote that he wants to plead guilty and is “affiliated with al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.” Muhammad has also denied that the Little Rock attack was a crime, insisting it was justified “because U.S. soldiers are killing innocent Muslim men and children.”

Several newspapers are live-blogging Muhammad’s trial, including the Memphis Commercial Appeal, which can be found here, and the Arkansas Times, which is here.”

“Little Rock Jihadist Defends Shootings”

by IPT News • Jul 22, 2011 at 6:14 pm

SNIPPET: “Testimony continued in the Little Rock, Ark. capital murder trial of Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, with prosecution and defense witnesses describing his transformation into an American jihadist.

On Thursday, jurors intently watched Muhammad’s videotaped interrogation by an FBI agent and local detectives in which he explained why he shot two soldiers outside an Army recruiting center. Army Private William Long died of wounds suffered in the June 1, 2009 shooting, while Army Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula survived.

In the interrogation session, Muhammad called the shooting a holy war and said he was not guilty of murder.”

SNIPPET: “Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad didn’t deny that he gunned down two U.S. Army soldiers outside a Little Rock, Ark. Army recruiting station. But Muhammad said he didn’t commit any crime when he shot Army Pvt. William Long to death and wounded Army Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula as they took a smoke break on the morning of June 1, 2009.

During an interrogation session, Muhammad told Little Rock police and the FBI that the shooting was a holy war and that he was not guilty of murder. “It’s an act of retaliation,” he said. “There’s a war going on,” he said.”
