Foreign students and past host parents allege that Mrs. Burgette, as an area coordinator for the Aspect Foundation, brought students from countries around the world to Scranton without first securing them a place to live.

In our experience with foreign exchange students this has happened more than once.

What a scam!

We have hosted students from Korea, France, and Spain, over the years. NO MORE!

This was a very disturbing report for many reasons. One major one is the seemingly inability of the family of these foreign students to retrieve their child once they hear of the complaints. Also, how does a family allow their child to the United States and live with a host family they know nothing about for all those months? If they can manage to scrounge up 12,000 dollars to pay for the experience, can they not manage to secure a plane ticket for themselves to check it out personally? Another reason the report was so unsettling, is that this does not just “border of human trafficking” it is just that. These students are children,after all, and they are being used for something in exchange for filthy surroundings and unhealthy exposures. Why did not anyone think to call the police? It seems criminal to me.
