Thousands rally in support of gay marriage ban (Fresno and San Diego)

Thousands of supporters of California's ban on same-sex marriage rallied in Fresno and San Diego on Sunday in what organizers described as a celebration of traditional wedlock and a thank-you to the California Supreme Court for upholding their voter-approved measure.

The demonstrations followed Saturday's gathering of gay rights supporters in Fresno to renew efforts to reverse Proposition 8, which the high court let stand early last week.

The dueling weekend rallies underscored the fact that, despite an election and a Supreme Court decision, the issue of same-sex marriage remains divisive in California.

In San Diego, about 200 Proposition 8 supporters were told to gird for what speakers said will be future political, legal and "culture war" battles.

Brad Dacus of the Sacramento-based Pacific Justice Institute urged the crowd outside the county administration building to be ready for "the next battle, the next battle and the next battle, without surrender."

In Fresno, about 3,000 demonstrators -- the same number who turned out the day before on the other side -- were told not to accept being called bigots because they support traditional marriage.

"We know we've been called hate-mongers. That's not what we are," said Jim Franklin, pastor of Cornerstone Church, just after the rally.

"We are people who believe in our values."

Speaker after speaker in Fresno exhorted attendees to respect the religious underpinnings of traditional marriage.

As the rally broke up, about 25 gay rights activists surrounded a group of Christian Harley-Davidson motorcyclists who called themselves the Fresno Motorcycle Ministry.

Quite a small showing for a town with such a large number of freaks.

So an entire year of this to go....and then they lose again. This is like being the Brooklyn Dodgers playing the Yankees....and knowing you never are good enough to beat the Yankees...so you just battle on.

I think the more aggressive they become....the less support they draw from the general public. You saw that this time. The tactics of “getting at people”...doesn’t win support. Adding to this problem....both the black and Latino community aren’t exactly supportive of the whole topic...and you have to be careful not to infuriate folks to such a degree that it hurts the democrats overall.

The people that are against homosexual marriage, were counter-demonstrating against the ones who want it to become California law... Re-read the article.

I understood the article. I was referring to what we here in San Diego have to endure with the large number of gays...25% of the population, I beleive. I would think there would have been a larger turnout. Then again, I heard nothing about it beforehand.

...San Diego...number of gays...25% of the population, I believe.

If I knew that, I wouldn't live there. Gays and lesbians are free to say I'm homophobic if that makes them feel more righteous.

Those who act out their abnormal persuasions indulge in perversity and anyone who's willing to be honest knows darn well that it's abnormal.

I’m missing something here. Didn’t the constitutional amendment explicitly invalidate all gay marriages? And didn’t the Supreme Court rule that the existing gay marriages could stand? This judicial rewrite of the constitution has setup a future equality before the law issue that will eventually lead to overturning the rest of the amendment. By allowing the court to set aside part of a constitutional amendment Californians have granted the court the power to toss out the rest at some point in the future. Everyone should be protesting the validation of the existing gay marriages instead of celebrating a temporary victory.

I have to seriously doubt that San Diego or even SF are 25% homosexual.

But I do think the homosexuals would like for the world to believe that number!

Their main tactic is “getting at” children, those who will be entering voting age in the next few election cycles. Alameda Schools voted for an insidious, mandatory indoctrination program just last week - expect more homo-friendly school districts to do the same.

Exactly right. This poison pill cannot be allowed to endure. Having the existence of fake marriage when fake marriage is outlawed is a travesty. This will be used as leverage to push for fake marriage everywhere again. But maybe the court knew this all along.

Everyone should be protesting the validation of the existing gay marriages instead of celebrating a temporary victory.

I agree. Ground hasn't been gained, or even held. True marriage advocates lost in this fiasco. There are now 18,000 in-your-face homosexual couples who will flaunt this to no end, whether in this state or in other states which must now defend themselves against the inevitable lawsuits which will be filed to overturn state DOMA's and constitutional amendments.

Thousands rally in support of gay marriage ban (Fresno and San Diego)

This is beginning to piss me off!

Every TV station in the Sacramento area (Channels 3, 13, 31, 40, 58 did the same thing as this misleading, propagandist pro-pervert version of a news story.

The story is Thousands rally in support of traditional Marriage!

Is it that hard to be neutral in reporting a story?

And the majority will be heard from again when gays take it to the ballot box. In fact, the people supporting Prop 8 keeps growing after the actions of the gay activists. So we should tell ‘em, “Keep it up!”

“Thousands rally in support of gay marriage ban (Fresno and San Diego)”

A better and more accurate headline would read “Thousands rally in support of marriage as Jesus Christ defined the institution in Matthew 19:4-6”.

I intensely dislike the term “gay marriage ban”. It’s like being in favor of a “square circle ban”.
