Rape and Incest make up for far less than 5% of all abortions.
If it is not possible to pass a law without those exceptions, than passing a law WITH those exceptions is perfectly acceptable and morally REQUIRED!
I am not a purist. I believe any restriction on abortion should be passed into law. However, I still believe it is morally wrong to kill a baby that was conceived by rape or incest and I would support legislation to ban those abortions as well. The only exception would be when the life of the baby and the life of the mother are both in danger (ie ectopic pregnancy). Personally, I would (and have) continued a pregnancy that was risky to my own life. The baby was not in jeopardy and my ob was able to manage my condition and all turned out well. In fact, before I chose my ob, I called to see if they performed or ever referred women for abortions. I didnt even want to have the issue come up.
DARN IT!!! (wanted to use harsher language here)
My argument is flawed-—
I had never considered that rape/incest would be such a small percentage of abortions(whatever the real stats, they would be quite low).
If abortions were only allowed for such situations, then a high percentage of those women who would be inclined to get abortions would cry wolf.
What a mess that would create for society and the legal system. No thanks.
Therefore, from a practical standpoint, and of my own opinion that abortion is not, in general, a positive thing, I must now be 100% against abortion, regardless of the situation.
