Delays to patients arriving to A&E by ambulance are increasing in many parts of the country as hospitals struggle to cope with a massive increase in the number of emergency hospital admissions since family doctors stopped providing routine out-of-hours care. Since the changes were made five years ago, the number of emergency hospital admissions has risen by 30 per cent, while the number of beds fell by more than 20,000.

This sounds like the real story. What was this "change" all about? Anyone?

Good catch. There are so many reasons that government healthcare is doomed to failure. If one bureaucratic rule doesn’t quite do the job, another ridiculous rule will. Americans are fixing to get a very cruel and brutal wake up call with government run healthcare in the coming years as the system breaks down and people die needlessly.

....a massive increase in the number of emergency hospital admissions since family doctors stopped providing routine out-of-hours care.....

I believe that the doctors are effectively on a fixed salary from the govt.
So no incentive to work “overtime” after hours.

A usual socialist problem...
