I'm starting to see a wonderful little trend here on Freerepublic.....apparently Freerepublic is the place to come if you want to badmouth the police and put the hate on all law enforcement.

No, I don't believe that this is hate-a-cop.com. But as we have seen in the past, there are times when the officers do step over the line sometimes. But they're human and sometimes things happen. I mean I watched one of those real police video shows last night and if I was an officer chasing a drugged up prev. at 100 mph, when I caught him I would have beaten the living shitz out of him. God bless those officers for keeping their heads and cool. But that's good training and superior men and women. The real problem comes when the state or party uses these peace keepers as their private storm troopers.

When the police forces of America return to the days of “serve and protect” instead of “to intimidate and oppress”, when they abandon their current “half-tax collector half para-military authoritarian adolescent” status my contempt may once again morph into respect.

Until then I know too many cops personally and have had enough encounters with them in other ways to allow myself the luxury of pretending they just peachy guys.

The job itself has become one that attracts a certain demographic - a very dysfunctional one.

So you see it as a good thing when cops adopt military tactics, weapons and training?

Perhaps they should be quartered in peoples homes, to keep them ‘safe’.

I didn’t read through all the comments brentla. My own comment about donuts and coffee is true, albeit a common joke, and too many policemen are overweight even though there are rules about that.

My own brother is a Chief of Police and I know him to be a very decent man in every way and he takes his job seriously.

He also considers himself a conservative - but he would disagree with much that is posted here on the forum. Why? Because, as I told him, he gets all his information from government sources.
