Let Them Eat Cake

Don’t bother petitioning Barack Obama for a redress of grievances. Barack Obama, the imperious yet bowing vassal to the Saudi Arabian king, can’t be bothered to take notice of Americans with grievances.

The maligned Marie Antoinette is falsely supposed to have replied to the hungry cries of French peasants for “bread!” with the uninformed and callous riposte “Let them eat cake.” Marie, was also blamed for the penurious French treasury and tarred with the epithet Madame Déficit.

Barack Obama is our own real life Madame Déficit and yesterday he regaled Hollywood’s high and mighty powers with his own version of “Let them eat cake.”

Last year Obama visited California and while there among his rich, callous, “creative class” friends, Obama sniffed that small town Americans were “bitter” and clung to God and guns. Yesterday, Obama visited California to once again raise money and fully displayed his contempts.

Speaking to a well-heeled audience of campaign donors in Beverly Hills, Obama was strikingly upbeat and assured. [snip]

The enthusiasm inside the Beverly Hilton was palpable — the president was greeted with repeated ovations — and the payoff was handsome: between $3 million and $4 million in contributions to the Democratic National Committee.

But Obama notably sidestepped two of the biggest issues facing California: He said nothing about the state’s disastrous financial condition or the issue of same-sex marriage, which heated up Tuesday when the state Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, a measure banning the practice.

All those movie stars and rich people were content to applaud Obama but not one, not a single big Democratic liberal, raised the question ..

For info, “cake” referred to the little pieces left over from the loaf. Those pieces remained in the oven eventually falling to the floor of the oven, becoming charred little bits of very overdone bread, also called “cake”.

That’s right. It’s time for some FReepers and other conservatives to come to grip with reality. We don’t have to compromise with the PUMA’s,; we need to stand on common ground.

Are we going to see “popcorn” moments, in which the liberal radical types start to criticize Obama???

He made promises to the gay community about Don’t Ask / Don’t Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act.

He promised to repeal Don’t Ask / Don’t Tell. He’s got a solid Democrat congress behind him. Why hasn’t he acted yet? The recent publicized dismissal of an openly homosexual military man, who happens to be an Arabic translator, was his cue to jump in and get that ball rolling.

And with same-sex marriage in the news, the silence has been deafening. With various states either allowing it or prohibiting it since he took office, he has had many cues to jump into that debate. He is on record as wanting repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, though he says that’s so federal benefits can go to gay couples. He’s on record opposing same-sex marriage, but sees the Defense of Marriage Act as an obstacle to what he promised the gay community.

Stay tuned. I think it’s good if critical numbers of liberals start to think that Obama hasn’t been liberal enough. That can only help cause discord on the Democrat side.

Could he even face a primary challenge in 2012?

Obama and the Dems are very wily, they know that all eyes are on the president so they cannot do anything that will freak out middle America. But, the states are something else, that is a local issue. They seem to be going state by state picking their fights where they can win them whether through the judiciary as they did in Massachusetts or through the legislature if they have a Dem majority. Even Democrat governor of NH, Lynch has been hesitant to pass the gay marriage law. I don’t know if he is just getting cold feet because he knows that all eyes are on the governor or if this is part of a strategy to let the legislators take the heat while the governor pretends to be resistant to gay marriage and then approves it at the last moment when he can then say that the majority of the legislators passed the bill so he had no choice but to go along because that is the will of the majority which represents today’s social norms. They know that the voters do not keep track of their representatives and senators the way they do the governor. Governors get all the tv time while the legislators can hide in numbers when they want to.

Someone said on the radio that the gays were picking up states one by one until they had a sufficient number of them so that they can then demand that the other states accept the gay marriages from the Dem states. Of course, this could end up in the Supreme Court. With Sotomayor and other possible Obama picks it would be easy to see how they would decide. This way Obama could have it both ways. He can keep his promises to the gays while not taking the heat from the American public. This is just what Gov. Lynch of NH appears to be doing. Obama can again present himself as being middle-of-the-road.
