Another day, another Schwarzenegger proposal to slash billions from state programs

SACRAMENTO — For the third time in as many weeks Friday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is slashing state programs by billions of dollars to wipe out a deficit that seems to be growing by the day.

The cuts would eliminate in-home nursing for all but the neediest patients, such as those who can't breathe or walk on their own. The proposal would grab $550 million from counties that's currently used to provide social services for the poor. And it would cut funding for schools and community colleges by an additional $680 million, bringing the total education cuts Schwarzenegger has suggested to more than $6 billion.

The plan would also cut the salaries of 230,000 state workers by 5 percent — on top of the two days per month of unpaid furloughs they're already being forced to take, the equivalent of a roughly 9 percent pay cut — for a savings of $470 million.

Schwarzenegger's finance team outlined the $2.8 billion in additional cuts this morning in response to a projection from the state's legislative budget analyst that the deficit had grown by slightly more than that amount in recent weeks. ...

If the state were a private company, it would be staring at bankruptcy, said Finance Director Mike Genest. But that's not an option, he said, so California will have no choice but to hack away at services to the most state's most vulnerable people, from school children to seniors to the indigent.

That seems only fair after Arnie Girly-man Kennedy seemingly raised taxes every week for the last 5(?) years. Revenues are up over 40% since Arnie took office, he spent every penny and much, much, more.

If, when elected, he'd kept the budget to inflation and population increases California would have a very large surplus.

Arnie had every chance to do a good job and he blew it, big time.

Ummm, if I’m not mistaken, the recent vote was a clear indication that this is exactly what the voters want. For the government to cut spending.

You're not mistaken. The message sent could not have been any louder, or more decisive.

I still say we need to deed over California to Mexico. The US would be better for it in the end.

Check out the violent stats comparison...lol...

I’d start with cutting all services for illegals.

Didn't ya hear? California voted overwhelmingly for that in the 1990s with prop 187. It won big. Then the feds, with their state government co-conspirators burned the ballots and declared our free election illegal.

The results of that punitive government intrusion can now be seen from Sacramento to to Georgia. The government not only emboldened these millions of criminals, they publicly encouraged them to invade our land, and in the process made American citizenship all but pointless.

All this while forcing the American people to pay billions every year to subsidize this lawlessness. lol..

But ... another reason illegals are such a problem is that they do not contribute significantly to taxes

All that didn't matter. The greedy businesses that hired these criminals by the millions only cared about profits.

Profits regardless of consequences.

The corrupt state government knew it. The Feds know it.

And who did the business people contribute money to? The same government politicians from both parties that made damn sure the border remained open and lawless.

lol...

To this day, these people have no desire to see their low wage golden goose killed.

Im a Californian who lived through the Prop 187 riots, so I know all too well. Additionally, I’m an Army vet that just had my federal tax refund confiscated by the government for the umpteenth year to pay for healthcare/pharmacy that I was promised would be free for the rest of my life after I became a vet at 180 days.

Isn't it laissez faire? Or, maybe yours is closer: it's raza faire. :-)

I would debate that, though, by saying your claim is only part of the truth. What about Mexican government? What about U.S. needing oil from Mexico? Global economics play a part. The one big happy North America is fast becoming an accomplished fact. But I digress.

I do blame the illegals for their craftiness, their attitude of gaming our system, draining our resources, and complete refusal to assimilate, to honor and respect any of our ways. They are only on the taking end. They laugh at all our laws. They are coached in this attitude by Spanish-speaking radio.

Not only are they aided by laissez faire politics, but are actively enabled by all who "hire" them. In fact, I would say they enjoy the most complete support system of any nationality that has come to our country.

i guess that's my point, as long as they are tolerated/encouraged by the public and the government they will be your problem, make it THEIR problem and they will go home...

i know, easier said than done.

There is one truth that nobody in the media can ignore. California is Bankrupt . . .

California Will Run Out of Cash in 14 Days !

Excerpt:

The state wallet is empty. The bank closed. Credit has dried up, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told lawmakers in a special Tuesday morning address at the Capitol.

“California’s day of reckoning is here,” he said. With no action, the state will run out of cash in 14 days. Three months after the state budget was approved, California faces a $24 billion deficit. * * *

Wait . . . I have an idea. LOL, LOL !

Ask all those rich mortgage bankers and Wall Street crooks to fund the government. They made billions during the housing bubble. Wealthy elitists love to drive flashy cars and own fancy mansions. These rich crooks also own your courts and pay millions for political favors.

Let them fund your corrupt state Heir Schwarzenegger.
