That's an old sales trick. It's called "mirroring."
Oboma chooses "words" that mirror his audience. He also uses neurolinguistic language to bypass the analytical mind and connect with the subconscious. (They use this in the public schools in Chicago.)

I well remember the media scorn for Ronald Reagan's hair dye.
