Sen. John Cornyn tonight repudiated the allegation that Judge Sonia Sotomayor is "racist" - and he distanced himself in no uncertain terms from the conservative opinion leaders who leveled that charge against the Supreme Court nominee, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
"I think it's terrible. This is not the kind of tone that any of us want to set when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advice and consent," Cornyn told NPR's "All Things Considered." The racism allegation - and efforts to pressure Sotomayor to withdraw from consideration for the court - stem from Sotomayor's remark that as a Latina, she would bring a superior perspective to some cases than a white male judge.
Asked by NPR if he's worried that comments like Limbaugh and Gingrich's harm the confirmation debate, Cornyn said: "Neither one of these men are elected Republican officials. I just don't think it's appropriate and I certainly don't endorse it. I think it's wrong."
The interview offered a preview of Sunday's ABC "This Week" appearance. NPR spoke tonight with both Cornyn and Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer - the same lineup booked for George Stephanopoulos' show on Sunday.

JOhn is a fund raiser for the Senate Pubs. He thinks wrongly that being nice to all sorts of liberal activists will somehow stop them from dissing and hating Pubs. He is wrong, but he is told that money comes from wussy moderates. He is dead wrong there since conservs are the backbone fiscally for what is left of a Party which disses them. I just want to win and somehow the moderates disdain that because that might mean they would have to get down and dirty as the Dems do on a daily level.
Are there any Texans left with balls? Both of them, of normal size or better?
All hat. No jewels.
He was never conservative, but rather was just another corrupt political hack. As Attorney General in Texas his office routinely kept back money from child support, and didn’t document that it had been received. So long as the amount is less than 10,000 dollars you can’t hire a lawyer for enough to sue the state to get your money back.
Fat boy version of sausage slicing.
In other words, just one more RINO POS flying his true colors.
Piss on him.
