I wonder if (1) Whether GM will need continuing cash infusions from the government, even after bankruptcy. (2) The government will impose a steep gas tax to force people to buy the cars that GM is allowed to make. (3) The government will impose tariffs on foreign automakers to keep Government Motors afloat. (4) GM will file bankruptcy again in a few years.

Maybe all 4. Stop the insanity!

The government will impose tariffs on foreign automakers to keep Government Motors afloat.

That should be very interesting with almost all Obama voters driving foreign makes.

The proletariat require nothing more than scooters. How dare they attempt to utilize State energy resources in such a selfish manner. Meanwhile bambi hops in his jet, at taxpayer expense, to go out fund raising for the dnc.

I predict $200 billion in added taxpayer dollars will be dumped in, ‘got to save the union’, and then total crash.

What Communists always forget, you need to get people to want to buy your products, not need to buy your products. Two entirely different things. You really don't need a car, you can just hang around the cardboard hut like Obama’s half brother and either steal your food or have someone from the UN to dump it off for you at the hut.

“The biggest potential bombshell, of course, is the prospect that GM will have to cancel the Chevy Camaro, too. Its presence in the lineup is hugely impolitic right now, with GM shaking the proverbial tin cup and hoping taxpayers will dig deep. Selling a completely frivolous steroidal muscle coupe works just fine when, you know, the cars actually sell.”

And the shame of it is, with the V6 Camaro, you can have your cake and eat it too. 304 HP, 29MPG on the highway.

I believe that #2 is a given and #3 is a probable.

#’s 1 & 4 are possible.

Plus some kind of tax on vehicles that people currently own, as an incentive to replace them with new clown cars.

"...Selling a completely frivolous steroidal muscle coupe works just fine when, you know, the cars actually sell. But right now such cars are as popular as Dick Cheney..."

Given that his popularity rises every time he opens his mouth these days, maybe there is hope for the Camaro after all. I hate lefty car writers - always biting the hand that feeds them.

So if they eliminate the only cars people want to buy, how are they going to make any money? The only consideration should be profitability. If a car makes money, they should sell it. If a car doesn’t make money, and does not add to the business, GM should figure this out and do what has to be done. That’s their business, not the government’s.

Tariffs no, Gas tax maybe, the carbon tax would be it's potential disguise. Cash Infusion yes.

The joke will be on all the Obamatons on the east and left coast that think all off us in the Midwest that design and build such cars are unwashed rubes to begin with. They won't buy them, they have Honda and Toyota on the brain. Yet they will be paying for it or at least the next 3 years.

More cash infusions IMHO to keep MI and these beast afloat.

The bottom line is this other than the Volt and their HCCI program GM's products are reliable but not something you will drool over, and the ones you will drool over, they don't want them to build. Why do you think Lutz is throwing in the towel. Worse over at Chrysler. IMHO they won't have the product that people will want.

This maybe a worse fiasco than British Leyland was for the Brit's.

I really don’t know how to get it through to libs that own big cars that

THEY WILL NOT BE EXEMPT

from the rules that will make owning such a vehicle impossible.

I guess all leftists think they are part of the “elite”.

If the government gives me a GM car, I guess I’ll take it. If they expect me to work, earn money, and then use that money to buy this collective-produced crap, then they are crazy!

They will definitely impose tariffs on foreign automakers soon, even the ones that manufacture their cars in the US.

GM is now Government Motors. I’ll never by another one.

“Green Trabants” are their future, and they will only be sold to govt. fleets.

I know. I planned to buy one of those next year. The V6 was just fine for me.

I may go back to looking at the Hyundai Genesis Coupe now.
