Almost one of every six foster children on mood-altering drugs in Florida is being medicated without the court order or parental consent required by law, according to a study released Thursday by the state Department of Children and Families. DCF Secretary George Sheldon acknowledged there was "no rational basis" for 433 foster children in Florida being given psychotropic drugs without the required documentation. He vowed that by next week, the agency would ensure that the children have parental consent to take the drugs or that their cases are scheduled to go before a judge. The study is more fallout from last month's suicide of 7-year-old Gabriel Myers, a South Florida boy who hanged himself in the bathroom of his foster home.

Our cultural reliance on medication for every this, that, or the other is bearing bitter fruit.
Child Abduction Services strikes again!
Children who’ve been abandonned need to connect to a feeling adult.
That adult must be wholely committed to allaying that child’s feelings of fear, worthlessness, and insecurity, helping that child to attain a sense of control over his/her own life, and that doing so is a priority more important than medicating them into compliant behavior. Medicating children - what a horrible practice! They’re children and scared!
Grandparents, or a concerned relative, would be ideal for this role. Unfortunately, few relatives are able or willing to take on this responsibility and the job falls onto the shoulders of foster parents. Foster parent are, by and large, doing foster work for the money - though not all of them - but in sufficient numbers for the system to fail to rescue children.
DCFS in any state has a vested interest in keeping kids in limbo.
Turning children over to bureaucrats is not an expression of love. We’d be better off with private orphanages with an incentive to find adoptive parents, than to trust government with kids.
One of the more ironic thing in our country is the strident cry from some quarters for more “drug control”, while legal prescription drugs are an over-prescribed nightmare. In my opinion, the vast majority of boys on ADD medication are absolutely normal, but are forced into it because of overworked teachers. Who knows what long-term effects this mass medication will ultimately have? I seriously doubt it’ll be good. Look at all the nice side effects we’ve discovered with other medication.
Home schooling continues to look better and better.
These are SSRIs
Very chilling.
“Parental consent”? Don’t be silly. CPS thugs are too busy and important for such niceties. Besides, any parent who disagrees with the CPS belongs in prison.
Very chilling.
They seem to form a thread in all mass murders
Just getting them ready for drug addict state as adults
