So what do you do if you get one? ‘Accidentally’ throw it away with the other junk mail? If questioned why you haven’t turned it in, respond with “I never got one,” or something to that effect? The answers to these questions are none of their business!
Exactly the only CONSTITUTIONALLY mandated question they need to ask is “How many persons’ live here?”, and I work for the Census, I would ~never~ fill out one of these questions though.
I received one a couple years ago, along with two reminders, and trashed them all. Never heard a word in follow-up.
Some research done online at the time indicated to me that the Census Bureau may be reluctant to press charges as they are nervous about a court case, since this obviously isn’t a head count done every ten years.
Yep...we got one the last time...only question we answered was the one asking how many people were in the household and sent it back. A short while later we got a call saying we didn't complete the form...they'll send another...got that one and tossed it...after a couple of weeks the calls stopped...I guess we're on somebody's list...
You're right...the answers to most of the questions are none of their business...the property questions can be obtained through the city/county tax office if they want the info bad enough...
If you don't want to answer those kind of questions, just return the blank form. The only information the government can demand is the number of people in a household, their age and sex. Beyond that, you don't have to supply any other information if you do not want to.
Amen! Just throw it away. Unless it is sent in a way that you have to sign for it, they have no proof that you ever received it.
