I was at Andrews AFB getting ready to deadhead home after flying a mission. I waited with the reporters. There was some old reporter (I forget his name) who was there reading some liberal newspaper rag with his glasses on the edge of his nose.

Next to him was Carol Simpson.

She was so giddy I thought she was going to wet herself. She was also bragging to every single other reporter within earshot that she was going interview "THE President" - Bill Clinton. Yes, she said it like that. "THE President."

No lie.

Most infamously, in a 1999 interview with President Bill Clinton at an Arkansas tomato processing plant, Simpson made the story all about herself and her glory: “I have to bask in this moment, for a moment, because I am here talking to the most powerful man on the planet, who was a poor boy from Arkansas....I am an African-American woman, grew up working class on the south side of Chicago, and this is a pretty special moment for me to be here talking to you. How does it feel talking to me? That I made it, too, when people said I wouldn't be able to?” Clinton: “It's a great country.”

I remembered her because during the Presidential interview between then President Bush and Gov Clinton, she mocked Bush, and asked him to comment on a question with something like: "Who would like to comment first? The EDUCATION President?"

Clinton must have flown her on AF One as payback for her submission on her knees and such biased "reporting."

But, what made my day was when she tried to waltz right onto the tarmac and up the stairs into AF 1.

I was in my flight suit with a line badge around my neck, and there was no way I would ever try anything like that.

The Secret Service and the folks at Andrews stopped her flat. I thought she was going to smack someone. I thought, "Here comes the name dropping." Sure enough. "I am HERE to interview THE President!!"
