I’ve seen many sheltered children who are simply unequipped to deal with the realities... While I appreciate the solid grounding that home schooling provides, I fear it may not provide a realistic life-experience for children to build upon when they leave the home.

"Sheltered" children and "home schooled" children are not necessarily congruent groups.

There are many "sheltered" children in public schools and private schools as well as, no doubt, home schools. These are the kids who never had to experience the consequences of their own actions and for whom their parents made excuse after excuse.

Such children will certainly not be able to confront reality.

On the other hand, most home-schooled children are, by definition, blessed with parents who have high expectations for their children and necessarily teach them accountability and responsibility. Such kids are very well-prepared to cope with reality.
