I haven't read the original post but from what I've heard about it I don't see a problem.

It's speculating on the truth and the future. We want Cheney to run for President but more than one has mentioned his age and heart problems. When McCain was running, we wondered about his health and the skin cancer.

I don't think it's objectionable to speculate on the future and what might nor might not happen.

I look at it as the U.S. having plans to attack Iran, North Korea or even Mexico in the event we are provoked or attacked. Responsible people make plans and speculate on all kinds of factors. I'd be a bit upset if there weren't plans in the event of situations changing.
