Gingrich Calls Sotomayor “Racist”
ABC ^ | Jake Tapper

Posted on 05/27/2009 2:03:02 PM PDT by pissant

“Imagine a judicial nominee said ‘my experience as a white man makes me better than a latina woman,’” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., blogged today.

“Wouldn't they have to withdraw? New racism is no better than old racism. A white man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw.”

He also tweeted similar comments, in so doing joined the ranks of conservative voices such as Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh accusing Judge Sonia Sotomayor of being a racist for her 2001 comments.

The conservatives are decrying a comment made by Judge Sotomayor in 2001, addressing former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's famous quote that "a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases."

"I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement," Sotomayor said. "First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

“New racism is no better than old racism.”

What a great quote.

Apparently a La Raza magazine was the one given the honor to print that speech.

If Saul Alinsky rules are in play, then make the Left live by their own rules...

Keep the Obama-Biden supreme court nominees in check. Hold VP Biden to the charges he unjustly leveled against Justice Clarence Thomas during his own Supreme Court nomination:

Senator Biden was the first questioner. Instead of the softball questions he’d promised to ask, he threw a beanball straight at my head, quoting from a speech I’d given four years earlier at the Pacific Legal Foundation and challenging me to defend what I’d said. ”I find attractive the arguments of scholars such as Stephen Macedo, who defend an activist Supreme Court that would strike down laws restricting property rights.” That caught me off guard, and I had no recollection of making so atypical a statement, which shook me up even more. “Now, it would seem to me what you were talking about,” Senator Biden went on to say, “is you find it attractive the fact that they are activists and they would like to strike down existing laws that impact on restricting the use of property rights, because you know, that is what they write about.”

Since I didn’t remember making the statement in the first place, I didn’t know how to respond to it. All I could say in reply was that “it has been some time since I have read Professor Macedo … But I don’t believe that in my writings I have indicated that we should have an activist Supreme Court.” It was, I knew, a weak answer. Fortunately, though, the young lawyers who had helped prepare me for the hearing had loaded all of my speeches into a computer and at the first break in the proceedings they looked this one up. The senator, they found, had wrenched my words out of context. I looked at the text and saw that the passage he’d read out loud had been immediately followed by two other sentences: “But the libertarian argument overlooks the place of the Supreme Court in a scheme of separation of powers. One does not strengthen self-government and the rule of law by having the non-democratic branch of the government make policy.” The point I’d been making was the opposite of the one that Senator Biden claimed I had made.

Nice find. I had no idea biden was part of that sinister, barbaric and filthy hit squad. I'd have been scared witless during the election had I known it.

The senator, they found, had wrenched my words out of context.

Imagine that. I used to think biden was a piece of outdated wallpaper. Now I see he's the sort of playground bully that kicks and throws rocks. What a pussy, and a perfect mate for Obama.

Also think I just noticed a similarity between obama’s book title and that of Clarence Thomas. That would be the sort of thing a parasite would do, so it’s perfectly consistent with his M.O.

“A white man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw.”....

Of course they should but we’re talking about the whack left agenda of “anything is o.k. for their ideology” and then you get the retardo media standing there quietly with hands in pockets.....

Let me try that. "Third, I would hope that a wise Sa'ami with the richness of their ability to live in the Arctic and survive on nothing but meat and fish would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a mere Puerto Rican who would freeze to death and die in minutes if the boatload of rocks she was working on were to tip over."

Don't have the story available at the moment (on travel) but it involves a boat with 24 Filipino sailers and 5 Northern European sailers. It was full of rocks. It tipped over in the North Sea. Only the Northern Europeans survived the 2 to 4 hours they spent in the cold water. The Filipinos died in about 20 minutes. I doubt that Puerto Ricans are better equipped for Arctic conditions than Filipinos.

So, does that sound "racist"?

Note the multiple uses of "would" - that same sort of construct in Spanish makes it possible to say nasty things about people and not be nailed on it because it's an "if" situation. It doesn't work quite that way in English but this Sotomayor gal doesn't know that. Still, I'm sure she'd drown if she were on that boat load of rocks next time it spills over in the North Sea.

Just because Minnow has no idea what "wise" means doesn't mean it can't be defined.

They should pull her tenure.

One question I beg that they ask her at confirmation:

“Other than white men, are there any other racial groups you feel superior to?”

Full transcripts of all of the Clarence Thomas nomination hearings.

Look through them for anything that can used against the Democrats who flip flop when presented with the SAME charges over Sotomayor.

18 years later, these same Senators are still in power. Time to take them to task. Chickens coming home to roost...
