In Defeat, Colo. GOP Gets Set for Victory
The Washington Times ^ | May 26, 2009 | Valerie Richardson

Back in November, Colorado Republicans took an important first step toward regaining their former status as the state's dominant political party: They lost.

Colorado voters swung for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, ousted Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave and kept Democrats in charge of the state' General Assembly. Given that Colorado already had a Democratic governor and two Democratic senators, the election effectively erased the Republicans' last hold on what was once a bright red state and moved it into the purple - or even blue - column.

But unlike the national Republican Party, which is fighting among itself as it tries to find a voice to counter a popular president, party leaders in Colorado have jumped into action.

"They have to add money and think tanks - in other words, try to reverse-engineer the infrastructure that the Democrats put in over the last four years," said Denver pollster Floyd Ciruli. "The good news is that the old guard recognizes the problem and is trying to help."

Good on Colorado.

The big problem nation wide was that Republicans sat and pouted instead of going to the polls. The only thing that counts is the marks on the ballot. ACORN has to be investigated, and conservatives have to rally and get to the voting booth. 40% of people not voting showed up.

A study i saw here on FR showed that the social conservatives voted for McCain, it was the fiscal conservatives who stayed home. I wish I could find the thread.

They got mad when he voted for TARP and then in one fell swoop did a disastrous Town Hall where he told the audience O was a great man and would be a good president. People right here went bonkers and many who were on the fence clearly jumped over it.

I am a social conservative. I voted Keyes,

I would never consider voting for any liberal - regardless of party.

I don't claim to understand all the nuances of what would have best served the party, etc. All I know is that right here, right now, out of all the realistic choices we ever had in the general election, I'd much rather that McCain was dealing with Israel, North Korea, Guantanamo, and a lot of other foreign policy issues. I don't know that he'd be much better on domestic, especially fiscal, policy. I doubt that he'd be nationalising banks and the auto industry. But he'd be terrible on immigration policy. But so will Hussein. And McCain would have never bowed to the Saudi king, for what that's worth. And I'd much rather have McCain choosing the replacements for the Supreme Court vacancies.

Correcto!
Although there were many reasons to dislike mclame and to hesitate in voting for him, you have clearly outlined the MANY reasons he would have been a vastly better President that what we ended up with.

I have even less for mclame now and wish he would get it though his and his family’s head that WE NEVER DID REALLY LIKE HIM and he should go on back to Sedona and let us try to salvage this situation without any more reaching across the aisle nonsense.

I don’t know anything about Owens’ “family issues” but he was a gun-grabber and that chilled me on him real good. If CO Pubbies are going to run RINOs then they can dream on about victory.

Plus, if McLame had (not hoping this) suffered any mortal disease or injury, we would have gotten SARAH as President!

Anyone whose vote allowed 0 to get into the Whitehouse should be ashamed.

I agree, since he didn’t stir himself to “bring it home”, his time has passed, he’s nothing but dead weight now, and needs to sit down and shut up. And that goes for his airhead daughter too. If he’d really cared, he’d have fought harder. Since he didn’t bother, why is he gumming up the works now? That may sound coldblooded, but this is politics and the future of our nation, not the Oscars.

Totally right...many of us hated McCain but saw what was coming with 0, and it should have not been allowed to happen.

I know I quit the CO Republican Party due to the wayward drift away from fiscal conservatism. If it wasn’t for Sarah, I would have probably skipped the POTUS race and voted down ticket only.

The Republicans still provide no reason for support and there is no national conservative voice. Even Newt Gingrinch’s plea for money was a bunch of lame, Washington-centric ideas.

I wasn’t aware of his stance on guns. IIRC, he admited to an extra marital affair, then decided not to run for the Senate..
