President Obama will nominate federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court Tuesday, FOX News has learned.
Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic on the high court if confirmed. She would succeed outgoing Justice David Souter.
Sotomayor's selection indicates that Obama is interested in diversifying the court. If she is confirmed, Sotomayor would also be just the third woman to ever sit on the Supreme Court bench, joining Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Does not bode well. People that have been diabetic for so long tend to have less and less control as they become elderly.
If you listen carefully to her comments, she is speaking her truth but realizes that it ought not be revealed.
She is dangerous because she is intellectually DISHONEST.
I like the news reports that say she is the most experienced and talented person nominated to the Supreme Court in the last 75 years.
I love the extreme talent of Obama’s people. And I wonder what Ginsberg and others think of comments like that. At some level, that must PO them a bit.
Portuguese does not equal Hispanic.
How extensive is the non-criminal hispanic voting block? :-)
In Texas it is quite large.
“Brown” does not equal “Criminal” by any means.
Stereotypes aside, most of the folks I know that are of Latino descent work twice as hard and are more conservative than the pasty folks I know :-)
Exact a mundo! The Mich guv would have been slightly more acceptable to me; but I am certain that this Hobson's choice (Souter-Mayor), is the best we could've done. Repubs shoud not try to draw this out; she will be confirmed by a large margin. In that sense, she's a "tar-baby" which, if punched, will surely entangle the puncher in unwanted ways.
We should save our heel-digging for someone like Ginsberg. Sonia will be an interesting Justice. From what I've learned, she's unpredictable, and hates it when anyone takes her for granted. Maybe she and Scalia will hit it off. He's very persuasive.
You did not notice my little smiley face.
16 hours a day for the past month is starting to wear me down :-) apologies, I missed that one.

Anyone here in Sessions district should suggest to him to block her nomination in committee....but not just her nomination, every SC nominee Zero sends up. There is no law that says the court has to be full to operate.
“Five minutes after the nomination, the first Republicans will begin singing her praises. “
And I would have said it was Arlen Specter. Now that he is a Democrat I would say it will either be Lindsey Graham or John McCain who will sing her praise.
Depends on which definition you use. The whole Iberian peninsula was known as Hispania in Roman times. Some agencies define Hispanic as including Portuguese heritage: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/civilrights/faq.htm
Your reply is a refreshing breath of common sense. Thank you.
So, let the republicans block them all.
“She was first placed on the bench by Bush, Im sure shell be accepted by the moderates of the GOP.”
Yep, they now have cover to vote “aye” for this leftist judge. GHWB also gave us Souter. What a coincidence!
I can just see it now. Illegals will be given ID cards by the government and the new undergound ID card market will be for white males looking to change their name to something hispanic-sounding to be even considered for a job.
People wanted change? Well, they got it.
My first wife had juvenile diabetes. She died at age 43.
“Portuguese does not equal Hispanic.”
but Kenyan equals POUS
Well, our lovely GOP will support the nomination just to prove how open and understanding they are and, besides, to stand up in opposition to Our Dear Leader would be the lowest kind of racism, and probably subject them to prosecution under the new Obama-brand “hate laws.”
Personally, I can’t wait for the first brain damaged lesbian dwarf nominee. Then we can REALLY have a party to celebrate diversity.
I believe that in your attempt to be moderate you seem to have missed the fact that Sonia has stated publicly that judges can make law. Her judgements are almost universally on the side of government. That is a dangerous belief in a judge, one worthy of resistance.
