Gus Van Sant’s film about Harvey Milk will not address Milk’s connection to Jim Jones and the People’s Temple. The most astounding thing about the relationship between the two is Milk’s continued support and defense of Jones after ex-members of the PT sued Jones, who then fled to Guyana. Milk even wrote a letter to President Carter in Feb, 1978 calling Jones a man of the “highest character” and accusing Tim and Grace Stoen of telling “bold-faced lies” about Jones’ in their lawsuit against him to regain custody of their son from Jones. In the letter, Milk seems particularly angry that the Stoen’s were attempting to bring Jones’ abuses to the attention of the US Congress as early as the summer of 1977.
Who would have thought. Socialism/Communism/Obamanism lead to death?
