One of our high school friends-—not a close friend of mine, but we hung out in the same circles-—Wesley Davis of Queen Creek, died only a month after arriving in SVN. He had gone, reluctantly, and at his funeral, when the preacher talked about his dedication to his country, the wreath fell off the wall!
I had a next door neighbor who joined the Marines on his 17th birthday, he went to SVN 12 days after his 18th birthday, and was killed by friendly fire 10 days before he was due back. The beloved Corps still doesn’t have any comments about it.
