I might actually be impressed by McCain's argument if it was based upon his personal experience. But that's not what McCain is arguing -- rather McCain's argument is based on public opinion polls. I find that a bit laughable and, frankly, something I've come to expect from people who haven't given serious thought to the issues they are being asked to opine on.
Put more bluntly, it's a cheap response from an American hero who also happens to be a truly lousy politician.

No one claims John McCain was not truly tortured by the Vietnamese. America has repaid him to some degree with a relatively cushy life since Vietnam and a chance to lead America.
Had he EVER been subjected to waterboarding from his NV captures he, no doubt would have enjoyed the mildness of this “torture” and the opportunity to bathe.
Mc Cain needs to shut up and go away. We gave him his chance and he blew it. Now it only makes our pain worse to have him keep kissing up to the damn libs and rubbing our nose in it.
