Yep, Team Obama screwed the pooch by their poor planning.

That's for sure. He ensured that the media couldn't ignore Cheney's speech, and actually set himself up for a side by side comparison.

Bob Scheiffer still has a bit of old school ability to think for himself.

"Just the fact that the debate took place, the fact that Congress turned the president down. President Obama’s been in the driver’s seat with the congress up until now, but congress pretty much pulled him over to the side of the road on this issue. And until he comes up with a plan on how to close Guantanamo down, I think they’re going to continue to deny him the funds to do just that.

Right now, I think the Vice-President has made his case, and at this point I’d have to say he’s winning."

Hopefully this will translate into a win for America's national security, which is really the point here. However, Rasmussen has a poll that says Only 38% Agree With Cheney That Obama Has Hurt National Security. This doesn't seem like a fair assessment of Cheney's speech since he was cautioning on FUTURE impacts of Obama's deciions on Gitmo, interrogations. Cheney is trying to prevent Obama from making America less safe.

IMO Obama is just playing both sides of the fence. This entire thing is a “work” to give Bambi room to say what he “wants to do” and what is going to happen (which is what he REALLY wants to do) won’t be his fault. I think the libs are seeing the value in being able to ship “enemies of the state” off to some camp never to be seen again.

Even with the best of intentions, the War on Terror has given the Bambis some powerful tools.
