Monday, 18 May 2009 21:12 President Obama has done it again. During his controversial commencement speech at Notre Dame University, he both affirmed and denied Jesus Christ. His mischaracterization of the Christian faith is defamatory and is spiritually and ethically dangerous and nonsensical. Whatever Obama has going for him as far as eloquence is concerned, we cannot gloss over the outrageous ideas he espouses. Obama’s “Christianity” cannot be taken seriously without destroying the Christian faith.
It's a shame that Notre Dame honored President Obama, who is overtly at war with God, and that they gave him a platform to declare his heretical theology of Universalism.
Double Speak
Perhaps the most disturbing part of the speech is the glib way in which he so easily invokes Christ. Obama says that “It was through this service, (with Chicago churches), that I was brought to Christ.” Note, it was not through acknowledging his sin and need of Christ’s atonement as the only Savior of the world. Rather, he came to faith because churches did community service. That’s fine as far as it goes, but Jesus came to save sinners, not recruit for ACORN.
While I cannot judge the President’s heart, I can evaluate what he says in the light of God’s Word. No genuine follower of Christ can say the things he says without denying the very Lord he claims to trust.
The Gospel of Doubt
According to “Reverend” Obama, “the ultimate irony of faith is that it necessarily admits doubt... And this doubt should not push away our faith. But it should humble us. It should temper our passions, cause us to be wary of too much self-righteousness. It should compel us to remain open and curious and eager to continue the spiritual and moral debate that began for so many of you within the walls of Notre Dame. And within our vast democracy, this doubt should remind us even as we cling to our faith to persuade through reason, through an appeal whenever we can to universal rather than parochial principles, and most of all through an abiding example of good works and charity and kindness and service that moves hearts and minds.”
Infernal, Relativistic Nonsense
According to Obama our doubts ought to control our lives, our passions and decisions. One question President Obama, are we supposed to doubt what you have to say about doubt? Or, are we supposed to embrace doubt as our ultimate value on the basis of your authority? To do so is to deny Christ as our Lord and His absolute truth.
Jesus said, “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." (John 18:37)
Jesus did not come to inculcate doubt, but to reveal the truth. Every Christian knows that apart from the Christian faith life makes absolutely no sense. Unless the Christian God exists, there is no truth and therefore no right and wrong. But Obama would have us doubt our faith in God as our Creator and His Son our Redeemer and join in him is his universalistic, contradictory, self-refuting faith in doubt.
To boldly assert, like the Apostles, that the risen Christ is Lord of all, His Word is true and must be believed and obeyed is to be “self-righteous,” according to Obama. So, only those like Obama who arrogantly worship at the pseudo-intellectual altar of doubt are spiritual. This is devilish logic.
Look Inward
Obama goes on to tell us that we must find moral truth by appealing to “universals,” i.e. ideals that everyone agrees to, not the parochial, narrow aspects of Christianity. The problem is the universal condition of man outside of Jesus Christ. Apart from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, man is spiritually dead and morally blind. Obama even admits as much in his speech when he said that the problems people face are because man exists in a state of original sin. That’s why Christ came, to save us from our sin and to reveal to us the truth!
The answer then is not to try to reason with people who are at war with God by acting as if they aren’t. We appeal to the only standard of truth there is, that which resides in Christ and His Word. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and the only Savior and Judge of all men. There is no neutrality. Either we serve God according to the truth as it is Christ or we are spiritual and ethical rebels.
The Myth of Neutrality
Christians cannot pretend that they do not know the truth in Jesus Christ so they can get along with fallen men, who claim, like Eve, they can know the truth apart from God. For the Christian, it is a matter of loyalty and covenant faithfulness to Christ.
We must call all men to believe and obey God. But Obama would have us pretend that there is no authority to appeal to outside of ourselves. “We open up our hearts and our minds to those who may not think precisely like we do or believe precisely what we believe -- that's when we discover at least the possibility of common ground.”
But, there is no common ground between the light of Jesus Christ and the darkness of worldly thinking and immorality. This is the myth of neutrality. The world is actively fighting God and suppressing the sense of deity that is in their conscience.
For an example Obama says, “The gay activist and the evangelical pastor may both deplore the ravages of HIV/AIDS, but find themselves unable to bridge the cultural divide that might unite their efforts.”
The gap between evangelicals and homosexuals is not cultural, it is spiritual and moral. Evangelicals make up all kinds of racial and ethnic cultures who get along just fine under the banner of Christ. They already do much to help people dying of HIV/AIDS. It is when homosexuals demand we lower our Christian flag and salute the rebellious rainbow flag of sexual sin that there can be absolutely no compromise.
What fellowship has light with darkness?
To further illustrate his moral confusion, Obama makes it morally equivalent to be against killing human embryos so we can cure other diseases.
“Those who speak out against stem cell research may be rooted in an admirable conviction about the sacredness of life, but so are the parents of a child with juvenile diabetes who are convinced that their son's or daughter's hardships can be relieved.”
So killing one human being in order to cure another is not morally objectionable? Even unregenerate people know that this is unjustifiable on moral grounds. This moral and spiritual ignorance on Obama’s part may be real or a cynic might believe it is just a calculated political ploy and an irrational, manipulative emotional appeal. Either way, no Christian can affirm it is right to kill a judicially innocent person created in God’s image.

The Holy Church’s credibility has taken a hit by the entire Notre Dame outrage. It isn’t restricted to having the Abortionist-in-Chief speak at the graduation. There’s the small matter of arresting and handcuffing and man-handling the 80-yr-old priest, treating him like a common felon.
As no less than the head-of-state of the US was involved in this fiasco, I would have expected the Pope — who is his “opposite number” — to weigh in. Instead, silence.
This isn’t the Catholic Church’s finest hour.
Obama’s mother and grandparents were hardened Marxists. No Judaeo-Christian teachings for him there. Next his mother puts him into a Muslim madrassah for elementary school Next he’s mentored by an African-American Marxist in Hawaii. Next stop college, where his mentors were haters of the West. Next he worships with Reverent Wright, the hate-monger for 20 years, though the reverent had no doubts - he hate America and calls for her destruction consistly. Now, where did Obama’s claim to be a Christian come in?
Baby-killers like Obama always encourage their OPPONENTS to be filled with doubt, to be timid, to be tentative, to SHUT UP.
And the cheering mob at Notre Dame understood perfectly well that Obama was talking to PRO-LIFERS, the BISHOPS, the POPE.
That mindless, wicked, howling, anti-Catholic rabble was the worst public indictment of Notre Dame as a “Catholic” school that anyone could have asked for.
Yet many are duped by this smooth, ear-tickling talk.
