Global electricity consumption will fall this year for the first time since 1945, according to the International Energy Agency.
The watchdog for developed energy consuming countries will tell energy ministers from the Group of Eight leading economies on Sunday that electricity demand will fall 3.5 per cent in 2009.
In China, where power use is seen as a more reliable barometer of economic activity than official economic measures, consumption will be more than 2 per cent lower than 2008. Russia will see a fall of almost 10 per cent, while countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development will see a fall of almost 5 per cent.
Three-quarters of the global decline in consumption is accounted for by industrial rather than household demand, reflecting the fall in demand from Chinas manufacturing-heavy economy. Consumption in India, by contrast, is expected to increase 1 per cent.

Ping!
That’s okay.
People can just burn trees instead.
Oh wait . . .
Hubby and the boys are actually planning to build their own solar panels. I am trying to locate some info for them about it. Does anyone know a good DIY program for it? I am working on going off the grid before cap and trade. I live in the sunshine state, with constant ocean breezes to boot. I might as well use it for more than just drying my laundry.
I call BS.
It won’t.
This reduction is just a small fraction of what those supporting the Kyoto treaty wanted the world to have.
Ominous.
I have crunched plenty of numbers, and they are way off. They are playing to the green crowd. Electricty will increase about 4 per cent this year. Oh, me? Well, I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night.
I have noticed this spring to be cooler and we have used less air conditioning due to Global Cooling.
Too bad solar won’t run any a/c, or fridge. That is unless you have your entire roof covered with panels and a shed full of batteries out back. Payback is > 30 yrs. though. And batteries won’t last that long.
Your own solar panels - Water heating, or photo-voltaic?
Photo-voltaic. I want to get completely off the grid to the extent possible. I average 1000 KW per month. I am having trouble finding stuff that is truly helpful online because everytime I search, only instructions you have to purchase come up. While they are not expensive, I just don’t want to get scammed, so I am not sure which way to go, but it is a supposedly simple process to make your own.
I would love to hear from someone who has some experience with this to find out about how many solar panels I would need to build, andd the best storage methods for the electricity. I feel time is of the essence, as if my electric bill is heading upwards, I will no longer be able to afford it. I would also like to be able to use my current electricity payment to do a snowball method attack on my debt and get rid of it sooner.
