The arrest of four men suspected of planning to bomb synagogues in New York City today shows that U.S. facilities are capable of holding terrorists, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said today.
Gibbs noted that Ahmed Ghailani, a current Guantanamo detainee who is under indictment for planning the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, is in the process of being transferred to the same prison where the four men arrested today will be held.
"I haven't heard anybody suggest that the people the FBI arrested last night are less dangerous [than Ghailani], right?" Gibbs asked in his daily briefing. "I also haven't heard anybody suggest that the people who were picked up last night should be transferred to Guantanamo."
President Obama made clear today that at least some Guantanamo detainees will have to be moved to facilities in the United States.
"Where demanded by justice and national security, we will seek to transfer some detainees to the same type of facilities in which we hold all manner of dangerous and violent criminals within our borders'highly secure prisons that ensure the public safety," Obama said in his speech at the National Archives today.
Republicans have railed against the possibility that detainees might be transferred into the United States. Last night, the Senate voted to strip funds to close Guantanamo until the administration submits a detailed plan for dealing with detainees.
The fact that nobody is suggesting that the suspects arrested by the FBI should be transferred to Guantanamo is irrelevant and immaterial.
At least three of those suspects are American citizens, and as such, have rights guaranteed to them by the Constitution of the United States. They are entitled to a legal process separate and apart from the "detainees" at Guantanamo.
There, fixed it.
I noted this while watching the idiot. There’s a difference between those that are caught in the US and those that are caught on the battlefield. What an idiot this guy is or most likely - Axelrod - who probably spoon fed him that line. Conflation of different, sometime opposing, ideas is the ‘stock and trade’ of a propagandist and Axelrod is and expert at this. Well, an ‘expert’ in that he knows _his_ audience (the ones that voted for hope (without substance) and change (as empty as the hope) won’t catch the difference.
uhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh, who is uhhhhh, Gibbs??
Apparently, Gibbs isn’t familiar with the US Constitution. Perhaps that’s why Obama selected him.
Gibbs is a PR pimp.
Obama is a fool. His choices of people to serve him are equally foolish.
William Gibbs, Defense Secretary. Uhh, make that Robert Gates. No, uhh, Robert Gibbs, uhh, Press Secretary.
Stupid TOTUS, always malfunctioning.

The four US terrorists were just common criminals who had been incarcerated for drugs, assaults, thefts and the like. They became Muslims and learned about Islam in prison. Should be bring more terrorists into US prisons to indoctrinate our already-prone-to-violence young men??
Right on. The Constitution isn’t a requirement for this administration.
:) uhhhh, gee, uhhhh, that ws good. :)
“The arrest of four men suspected of planning to bomb synagogues in New York City today shows that U.S. facilities are capable of holding terrorists, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said today.”
These goons haven’t even been in the bag 24 hours yet-isn’t it a little premature to go flaunting how safely they’re being kept from the rest of humanity??
Which case was that? Was it that having radical Muslims in prisons is a horrible idea because they radicalize other prisoners?
