Obama Is Said to Consider Preventive Detention Plan (Flush the Constitution!)
NY Slimes (Page A18!!!) ^ | 5/21/2009 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

WASHINGTON — President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a “preventive detention” system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried, two participants in the private session said.

The discussion, in a 90-minute meeting in the Cabinet Room that included Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and other top administration officials, came on the eve of a much-anticipated speech Mr. Obama is to give Thursday on a number of thorny national security matters, including his promise to close the detention center at the naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Human rights advocates are growing deeply uneasy with Mr. Obama’s stance on these issues, especially his recent move to block the release of photographs showing abuse of detainees, and his announcement that he is willing to try terrorism suspects in military commissions — a concept he criticized bitterly as a presidential candidate.

Sounds remarkably like Gitmo, except for who might qualify for admittance...

Except that the people at Gitmo have done something wrong while the terrorist suspects can be incarcerated. Preventative detention has an ominous sound to it.

I think Obama has fascist leanings. I think he learned about the Constitution so he could destroy it.

Imagine if Bush had proposed this. The furor over WMD would have paled in comparison.

I am glad for the record firearm sales and record ammunition sales.

This ought to boost them even further. This will send sales into the stratosphere!

Rush Limbaugh or Sarah Palin would the first prisoner.

Hardly. The first prisoners will be obscure people who are not well known in their communities, loners who will be missed, but not have been anticipated to be out and about more.

They will just 'fade away' without fanfare, without witnesses, without any headlines in the paper. One day they will be there, then the 'knock' will come in the night, and they will be gone. Only being visible is a safe haven, only being well known provides security, if there is any, because only people who will be missed, who people will question the detention thereof, will be tough to gin up a bunch of hooey about in the local media.

If a person were to get taken, at least they can by their absence get others to question what is going on, and hopefully, to resist.

What I would really like to see is another 20 to 30 million NRA members

I wonder how many on this site aren't members and why.

Thanks for the Gulag reference. It is twice now on FR that it has been mentioned. Probably should take it off the shelf and read it again.

My 13-year old son in passing said they are supposed to write the school district about their views on abortion. (My younger daughter said “Abortion? That’s where they kill babies - right? Well THAT’S an easy one.”)

I need to look into it further. It does not sound like an assignment to the teacher. What the heck does the District want to know what my 13-year old thinks about abortion. Three years ago most would say my tin foil was loose - but today, I’m not so sure they aren’t making up a list of possible “terrorists”. You know, military vets, gun owners, pro-life, Bible believing types.

I guess he can either: Give his views. Be wishy-washy about it and write something like Clinton (they should be available, but few), or just say - “It’s none of your business!”

Any thoughts?

(Hey - the ground on my tin foil slipped off!!)

Some folks insist that there are already 800 camps already built, stocked, prepared . . . including the death chambers.

. . . some of which can supposedly handle whole rail cars full of people with the people remaining inside.

SCRIPTURE EXHORTS REPEATEDLY:

FEAR NOT.

LOOK UP, our Redemption draws near.

Keep close to Jesus . . . ready to lose our lives joyfully that we might gain His eternal life . . . yet living for Him while still in the flesh . . .

Scripture says he that saves his life shall lose it; he that loses it for Jesus shall save it eternally.

Matthew 16:25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

THIS IS NOT OUR HOME.

Our MANSION BUILDER is COMING AGAIN.

INCREDIBLE.

WOULD CERTAINLY find out where that assignment originated.

I think I’d be very inclined to tell them none of their business.

“WOULD CERTAINLY find out where that assignment originated.”

Last year their was something that was odd as well. I can’t recall what it was now. But I did some searching and saw the teacher’s unions was pushing it hard. I did a search on this latest topic and didn’t come up with anything yet.

Of course I suppose the paper he wrote on “Why Teachers should be allowed to have guns in the classroom” probably have us on the list anyway!

Wellllll . . .

I have noted that we ought to be doing The Lord’s business so energetically as to already be on such lists long standing.

Nevertheless, I don’t believe in cooperating unnecessarily with satan’s crew.

Guess not.

Wasn't around when he created the ("CO2 is a pollutant") EPA either

(well, yes I was, but...)

I don't think either were a good idea.
