It's all about market niche. The people that run this competition aren't stupid. That, and Kris was proficient in at least three instruments: voice, piano and guitar. Even Kris does not realize how rare this combo actually is in this day and age.

Kris was solid. that’s for sure. Adam is talented, but he will do better without such control as they seem to exert on the winner. Adam will have a nice career.

Even Kris does not realize how rare this combo actually is in this day and age.He actually plays violin as well. He was an all-state champion in high school and received scholarship to do music but he declined and picked business major instead. He also wrote several songs, including the one about his experiences as missionary in Thailand.
