The first time I went out in Southeast Asia I was issued 200 rounds of 5.56mm. I used that up in about the first 20 minutes of contact - along with everybody else. The next time I went out I swapped food for 600 rounds of ammo and extra water. Learned how to eat off the land and of course there was always plenty of “spare” food to go around. Only one time after that did I wish for more ammo but a friendly Cobra took care of the issue. IMHO you cannot have too much money, be too good looking or have too much ammo - especially when it could well be a lifetime supply.
